Re: ID Cribroheros

It almost must be C. alfari. It is the only to the picture corresponding Cribroheros in Central Costa Rica. As you may know, there is another relative in the south, C. diquis and two in the extreme East C, rhytisma and C, diquis. In my eyes, C. rostratus is not considered. Not because of the red dor...

Re: which Thorichthys is this?

I am also agree with Matt. When you don’t know the exact provenance, the safest is to talk about a aquarium strain. On the other hand, When you are fore sure you have a typical variation from a typical place you have the responsebility to keep them clean and pure. I can not speak about the rio Mopan...

Re: which Thorichtys is this?

Hello Meeki67 First of all, thank you for sharing the information about the meeki from rio Mopan. This was new for me and as a Thorichthys-fan it’s always nice to learn new things about this wonderful Genus. But secondly, I must also express some criticism here. Don’t you think “sharing your own inf...

Re: which Thorichtys is this?

Hello Wim Becauce I saw youre advertisement on http://www.marktplaats.nl/ until yesteday, I guess you probably do not want to hear my input;) But for the rest I do it anyway. I see the likeness of the black belly with the Angeles, but the rest of the body isn't nearly as black. The Angeles delivers ...

Re: which Thorichtys is this?

THIS IS A HYBRID! ( Thorichthys meeki Angeles X Thorichthys probably maculipinnis ). Thorichthys meeki Angeles is a newly discovered variant of the fire throat cichlid and is distinguished by its large amount of melanin-chromatophores. This gives the fish a very dark appearance. The fish came by coi...

Re: ID-T. ellioti?

I am agree with michal.
It's a meeki, but with some maculipinnis (ellioti) markings (like the few
black scales and the yellow in the fins). So I think it's a hybrid :(

Re: Fishing trip puzzles

Yes youre right, now I see. It is Affinis. I did not recognize without collors ;) Thank you for the information. Good to hear the Los Angeles University researching the Margaritifer-story. I am curious to the copies. The urophthalmus on Conkels side looks a little bit strange indeed (especially the ...

Re: Fishing trip puzzles

The description and the foto's are not similar. - In the description the fourth bar is the widest one. - On the foto's the third bar is the widest one. Of course a description about only the bars is far from complete ;) Where are the foto's come from? again I came no further than "one kind of Ampilo...

Re: Fishing trip puzzles

I see alot more simmilarity besides the blue eyes
O sorry. "somebody trust on his blue eyes" is a dutch proverb :) I don't mean it literal.
Of course there are a lot more similarity's then differences. I would say "more than necessary".
also some spp have a variable number of bands
like...?

Re: Fishing trip puzzles

The appearance is the same, but the fish is quite diferent for me. Look through youre first impression. The fish want to believe you they are the same :) I see the differences on all foto's but the best way to see it is to look at your first foto. Foto nr 1. There you got them both one above the oth...

Re: Fishing trip puzzles

John.., This thing gets more interesting by the hour. When I got a bit closer look at your 2 fishes I came to the conclusion they are not "two off a kind". In fact they are complete different. At first sight they have the same appearance, but when you examen them seriously you see big diferences. fi...

Re: Firemouth Cichlid

Hallo John I see you managed again to post an undescribed Thorichtys. It looks like every river there, owns his own Thorichthys (like Apisto's in Z.Amerika) Mabye it's better to named species to the rivers they live in. The "filiation" between an areus and a helleri from the same river could be bigg...

Re: Jack Dempsey and Green Terror

In this tank your cichlids are getting "agoraphobia", and I think your Plecostomus is
(even for heroin-cichlids) a scary monster.

You need a lot more stones and wood in the tank and you must give them a reason to akt.

A female :)

Re: Thorichthys socolofi 'Rio Bascan' F1

Beautiful pictures of beautiful fish. Unfortunately, those are not available in the Netherlands.

On the sixth picture (of fish) I see a Thorichthys in the background that looks like a T.helleri.
Do you have also T.helleri in the same tank or is it the light or maybe me? ;)

Re: Going Fishing in Lake Peten

"We dicovered nothing new" Just a new Thorichthys :o Thanks for answering my questions. Still, the latter Thorichthys I can not identify. It seems to me an intermediate between affinis and Pasionis, but sometimes it is difficult to determine whether a species is an intermediate between two species o...
