I have Gymno. meridionalis since last year in hard alkaline water (7,8 pH; 20 GH), spawning and growing very well.

Hope it helps.

"Pseudotropheus" johannii?

Hi there to you all, I just read in Philippe Burnel´s web site that this species complex has been moved to Pseudotropheus and is no longer in the Melanochromis genus. Can anyone give me a reference on where to check it? Well done Philippe, your website is a great place to learn and enjoy fish! Best ...

Gymno meridionalis available

Hi there to you all. I have quite a few of this species available, now that they are breeding very well. As I am in Spain, I can only mail fish safely inside Europe. Anyone interested, get in touch with me. Greetings, Manuel... http://www.ciclidos.org http://es.geocities.com/mzapater http://www.geoc...

Thx a lot Gas,

I just remeber the fish from pics in fish magazines and so on.. but have never seen it anywhere.

From what you tell and the lack of information, the pics may have been from a different fish in fact...

"Cichlasoma" istlanum in aquarium

Hi there to you all,

Anyone has the experience of keeping this fish in his/her tanks?

A friend will be travelling these days to the originary zone of the species in Mexico and might be able to bring some youngs back.

Thanks in advance,

Manuel...

Once I fell in love with Aulonocara OB that I found in a dealers shop. I bought them and soon got lots of fry. When I knew that they were hybrids between Aulonocara and Pseudotropheus it was hard to get rid of the little fish, but I did it. I just kept an adult male who died of old age. I also had o...

Dreadful "blue Dempsey"

Hi there to you all.

Just a question about this (imho) ugly fish. Is it a mutation of C. octofasciatum or a hybrid?

Any help welcomed...

"Haplochromis" erythrocephalus

Hi there to you all, Some years ago, Haplochromis erythrocephalus was a common sight in pictures of aquarium magazines. It looked like a truly magnificent fish, with incredible colours. It was then named as Enterochromis. I haven´t heard anything about this fish since then. Any help would be appreci...

Well, thx to you both, I am starting to have doubts about my fish, since my "flameback" females show vertical bars and the males look too much like the "ch 44", their bars are very thick. Anyway, I have them separated now, and as soon as they grow I´ll take pics and ask for your oppinion, if that´s ...

Haplo. sp "flameback"

Hi there to you all, I recently got some of these fish, wich are starting to get nicely coloured now. Is it known if they are a still undescribed species or a variety of H. nyererei? So far they are growing very fast in company of Labeotropheus trewavasae and Placidochromis phenochilus (all juvenile...

I use a mix of mussels, fish, peas and carrot, also pellets about once a week just in case there are some components missing.

For the small fish I keep a culture of brine shrimp.

Big carnivorous fish get mussels, shrimps or fish chopped into appropiate size chunks...
