Re: Woohoo! White Calvus fry!

Thanks guys. I just spun them out into a breeder box. 75+ easy. I'll be moving them to their own 20L and eventually a 40B as they grow out, assuming I can keep a decent number alive that long. Contrary to what I'd read on some forums, I found alto fry to be very hardy and easy to raise. I never had...

Re: Woohoo! White Calvus fry!

Congrats, Andrew!

I've had good results from spinning them out. Once they start to roam, it'll be lots of work to round them up. You'd probably end up having to move the adults. Better to remove the fry. At least that's my thinking.

Re: Need lots of advice

To answer your first question, you may not need to buffer at all. Check your tap water parameters, which is always a good idea anyway. Know your KH and pH levels. If the KH is in at least the 7-8 range, then the water changes you should be doing will buffer enough to keep the pH from crashing. Try t...

Re: DIATOM FILTERS

It's a specialty filter that performs mechanical filtration of very fine particles. Unless you're plagued with something like that, I really wouldn't take the time to run it. I used to run one on my customer's tanks when I had an aquarium maintenance business way back in the 80's, but if I had to do...

Re: Heater stuck

Sorry about your losses, Kyle. I hate when that happens too. When I set up a new rack of tanks, I took the time to test heaters. With 50 tanks, I can't buy $50 heaters. What I did was add a certain wattage and turn it all the way up (no fish in the tanks yet, of course). I found the wattage that wou...

Re: P. niggripinnis

Yours should be large enough to spawn. or very close to it. Try setting up rocks to form caves instead of using the slate. This setup worked for me. http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u217/tdcraig/Fish%20room%20project/Xenos.jpg The females released in the tank and the fry schooled together in the u...

Bag limit clarification please

Does 'Buck-a-bag' auction refer to all BAP, donations, and whatever we want to auction off? Or are BAP and donations excluded from that limit?

Thanks

Re: Breeding Myaka myaka

Is this in breeding colors or are they always halfway colored like this? Breeding color, but they're often breeding. Sometimes just one male, sometimes both, and different intensities. Good luck Tim with this group ... Let's talk some more about them on Saturday night. After talking to Greg Steeves...

Re: Water problems

If I were in your situation, I'd look at a separate filtration unit coming off of the source water that strictly dealt with the contaminants without softening the water and use it for the fish, but that's more money. Some claim it's not a good idea to keep fish in water softened as yours is now, but...

How long did it take you to finish this project. and can you most more pictures of your stand construction? I started in Sept 2008 and finished and filled and stocked in Nov 2009. Here's all the pics I have. (In no particular order.) http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u217/tdcraig/Fish%20room%20pro...

Re: The fish room expansion

Thanks, copper pipe is fine. If it wasn't, we probably couldn't keep fish as most homes nowadays have copper supply lines.
