Re: Tomocichla Asfraci ?

Hello, They are sometimes available by hobbyzoo-tillmann in Duisburg (Germany) you could ask them if they can get them for you. We don't have any of them in the Netherlands at the moment... most of them died by infections because a lot of people don't understand how much care they need. A lot of wat...

Re: Herichthys tamasopoensis tankmates

Hi, First of all it's good possible to make a biotope setup for Herichthys tamasopoensis, In my opinon are swordtails good tankmates only they don't need to be to small! Other good tankmates are Astyanax mexicanus and what do you think about other fish like Poecilia mexicana these can also be kept w...

Re: Maps needed to collect in Mexico.

Dan and Michi, Thanks for the information 8) I added the link to my bookmarks 8) I think to plan a direct flight from Amsterdam to Mexico or something.. I have to find out where it's most easyest to get the fish in, without any problems. Last time with a shipment from Don Conkel to Amsterdam there w...

Re: Thorichthys in groups

Hello, I would suggest a minimum tanksize of 150cm for 4 pairs, (for the bigger sized Thorichthys as meeki, pasionis, aureus, ellioti) but smaller sized Thorichthys as socolofi and callolepis can be kept in bigger groups in a 150cm tank. Don't forget to add some ditherfish as Poecilia or swordtails the...

Re: Thorichthys in groups

Dear all, I have some groups of Thorichthys species, I think when they are kept in groups they show more natural behavior than keeping them in pairs. When they are kept as pairs they show more agression between eachother, don't forget that the male will be agressive after the breeding period, so wit...

Re: 135gal Central American setup (PIC)

Hello, De setup looks good, but the choices of fish?? I think you can beter choose for some cichlids to keep them in pairs. and not seperated fish.. this is not good for the fish and you will not see their real behavior! You're tank is big enough to put a group of Thorichthys in it togetter with som...

Re: blue spotted? hybrid? or ...?

Most synspila (now known as melanures) got some spotteds when they are young.. but some variants can hold these spotteds like those from the río sarstun and those from the rio chiapas. I have kept a serval variants of them and i must say that not all these fish got much spotted as adults.. but your ...

Re: Theraps Coeruleus wigglers!

Good news Norcal! I have at the moment one pair with fry, and a group of 40 to 50 small ones in a seperated tank those small ones are around 2,5 to 3cm now.. so i hope to end up with a big group but they can be sensitive at a size of 3cm. I keep the fry in a tank with a temperature of 26C and 3 time...

Re: ID big cichlid from Panama

Hello,

Yes, the fish on the picture is for sure not a Astatheros robertsoni but a Caquetaia umbrifera 8) They can grow so large and in my opinon is this not a fish for in a tank with tankmates.. they can be so agressive.. and most tanks for this fish are to small same for Parachromis dovii.

Re: Suggestions for CA 'dwarves'?

Hello, There are much cichlids from Central America who can be called as a dwarf in comparison with the bigger cichlids like Vieja, or Paratheraps ;) But some small fish can still have a agressive behavior if you look to Cichlasoma salvini this is not a very big fish. But they can dominate a whole t...
