Re: Laetacara spawn - again

They have spawn again, this is the third time. Frys from the first spawn are still hanging around the parents. But I also see frys that are half size smaller. Only a handful. I suspect the majority of the second spawn, were probably eaten by the bigger frys. The parents made no attempt to chase away...

Laetacara spawn - again

I have a pair of Laetacara, which I think are Curviceps. They bred some 2 weeks ago. Today they had their 2nd spawn. But something unusal happen. The 1st batch of frys are still around and staying close to the parents. Normally, I would have expected the parents to 'finish' of any surviving frys or ...

Re: Gymnogeophagus Caaguazuensis - laid eggs

A big thank you to you guys for sharing.

Looks like the female has given up caring for the eggs due to the constant 'harassment' of the male.

He keeps chasing, flaring and shaking in front of her.

Will have to wait for the next round.

Here's what happen, Got news that a local importer brought in a batch of Gymnogeophagus Caaguazuensis. By the time I ...

Hemichromis cf Paynei - 2nd successful spawn

This is the 2nd successful spawn of my wild caught Hemichromis pair. Althought I got bought them as Cristatus but I think their closest match is the Paynei. The lack of irridescent spots, more oval lateral spots closer to the dorsal than to the midlateral line and the golden markings on the sides of...

Re: Hemichromis ID?

I have cleared the other fishes in my tank and added a sponge to the inlet of my OHF. The parent fishes are obviously more at ease now. http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g76/nicktc1/Fishes%202012/hemi4.jpg http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g76/nicktc1/Fishes%202012/hemi3.jpg http://i53.photobucket.c...

Hemichromis ID?

Picked up a bunch of wild caught, labeled as hemichromis cristatus. Fishes are betwwen 2-3inches right now. Have been comparing images from the web, and they do not look very much like the cristatus. Still in stressed color, but it can be seen clearly, the females doesn't have any facial spots (regu...

Re: HEROS SP.ROTKEIL vs Heros Appendiculatus

Hi, If I may ask this question here. Is there a difference between the sp Rotkiel and Appendiculatus. I notice that the base color and the color of the cheek markings seems a bit different, other than that, the red should and barring on the body looks quite similar. Attached are pictures of a wild p...
