Re: May bulletin posted

I pay my membership every year at the Extravaganza. But I haven't received a bulletin in awhile. I thought it might be online but I couldn't find it. I tried to login but never found where I could register first.

Re: Just one more in a never ending list of QUESTIONS!!!

Hi. Ok, I have received some fry that are Paralabidochromis sp. "red fin piebald." Now, as fry they appear to be orange and flecked. When I googled them I found a photo taken by Kevin Bauman Kathy When I bought the juvenile red fin piebald they all looked identical. They were orange to pink-white a...

Re: Need cichlid photos

Macropleurodus Biocolor http://img277.imageshack.us/img277/6079/image030nd82zy4.jpg Interesting! That picture was taken by me at the Columbus zoo and the ID isn't certain. http://www.african-cichlid.com/Zoo.htm I'm not sure who took my photo and placed it in their imageshack account. I don't really...

Re: is it the same fish

This is the A. burtoni I had years ago:

Yellow in a sub-dominant mood

The dominant male turned blue. This is the exact same fish in two different moods.

This was hashed out a few years ago with no consensus as to what it might be.

Re: Photo Of Pundamilia "Black and Orange" Nyereri

The only fish I could find that they looked really similar to are from the photos on your pages of the Pundamilia "Black and Orange" Nyereri. However I can't find this fish anywhere else on the Internet. You may want to search under Pundamilia igneopinnis and Lithochromis xanthopteryx and see if yo...

Re: alluaudi or calliptera?

I was suspicious because of the blueish tint in the lower jaw and the redish color between the eyes, and the lack of pure yellow in the dorsal all seemed to point towards calliptera.

alluaudi or calliptera?

Sold to me as Astatoreochromis alluaudi
does it look correct or more like Astatotilapia calliptera?

http://african-cichlid.com/Callip_Allaud.htm

This dominant male is only about 5 cm total length

Re: Need help with ID

At first I thought they were all females, That would be my guess as well. Most of my female Victorians have the dull yellowish colored anal fin and I see that same color in at least one of yours. The look of your fish also are a bit similar to some nyererei females I had. http://www.african-cichlid...

I definitely noticed the L. rufus similarity. But I thought rufus was nowhere to be found in Europe?

Yes, that's the answer I expected. Mine are here:

But before I told some one I thought the picture wasn't correct, I needed a sanity check.

Redback Scrapper

The manager of my favorite aquarium store is a knowledgable guy, but not a Victorian enthusiast. These were given to me (1M:2F) as red back scrappers. They are only about 1 1/2" (4 cm) TL at this time. Here are some "not ready for primetime" pics: http://www.african-cichlid.com/RedbackScrapper.htm I...

I kept these for quite a few years and found them to be one of the most prolific breeders I've ever had. I pretty much flooded the local market til there was no demand anymore. Like GAS said, they tend to come and go in the hobby. I believe that's because Old World sells them then stops for awhile t...

Haplochromis sp "fire"

Recently we had "Intermingl" ask us to identify his cichlid: http://www.cichlidae.info/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1710 Initially, I told him that I did not think it was a Haplochromis sp "fire". My reasoning was, that I had never seen the fire have any color other than red plus grey and the greenish col...

Every pic I've seen of a "limax" seems to look different. Yes, I know. And the Cichlid-Forum picture looks different too: http://www.cichlid-forum.com/profiles/species.php?id=1549 So now we have the Old World cichlid, Thomas's cichlid, the Cichlid-Forum picture, the old Armke picture, and the pictu...

:( Hi I'm sorry to say it seems not to be H. limax to me, but it seems belonging to the rockribensis group of species, Xris :) That's what I thought too, Samaki. But the females are all the brownish color with vertical stripes, not at all like other rock krib females. I consider the store I bought ...

Haplochromis "limax"?

The LFS claims that this is a Haplochromis limax "red chest" that they bought from Old World. What do you think?
