Re: Malawi tank: possible or not possible? This is the probl

The two species you are trying to keep are dwarf mbuna and can go in a smaller tank than most mbuna. That being said, even for these fish I would say 80cm is too small. I think you would need to be around 95cm or higher.

Re: Apistogramma Photos

Mike,

Is there a list of errata for the Romer books anywhere? It would be useful to know which id's were incorrect.

Re: The Spectacular Acarichthys heckelii

Amazing fish and nice pics.

I loved mine but I also found them to be fairly aggressive as young adults. I ended up with just one.

Question on nomenclature

First of all, I apologize if this has been asked already and please feel free to point me to the answer if it has. My question is what is the correct way to refer to fish in Cichlasoma that don't really belong there. I commonly see it done three different ways. 1 - exCichlasoma 2 - 'Cichlasoma' 3 - ...

PC Apps:
Aquariogest

iOS:
Aquaplanner
Aquarimate

I use Aquariogest mostly to track livestock and maintenance reminders.

Online Cichlid Registry

There have been a lot of people talking about pure species lately. I have an idea that I would like to put forward. Recently, I started working on an on-line cichlid registry. A single on-line tool where people could register the cichlids they were keeping and where they came from. Over time, this w...

If they were I guess English folk would spell them "italicised" and "captalised"?
Yep, they are real words. Both in the dictionary and commonly used.

Re: since the Apisto's are so hot. . .

I am not an id expert so please take what I say only in conjunction with others but I would say it is a form of agassizii.

So I would label it A. cf agassizii.

Re: Laetacara identification- updated with pics

OK, When I purchased this group I thought I had a trio of L. flavilabris. Now that they have grown out a little I am starting to think I have 1 male flavilabris and 2 other laetacara. Please take a look and let me know what you think. I am sorry for the pics....I could not get a good shot of these g...

Re: In Need Of A Less Then 3" Cichlid

There are a fairly large number of south american fish that stay smaller than 3". What else do you have in the tank and how hard is your water?

Re: Laetacara identification

There are presently only 6 (possibly 7) Laetacara species. It should be easy to Google photos of each species: L. curviceps (+ L. cf. curviceps Surinam), L. dorsigera, L. flavilabris, L. fulvipinnis (= sp. Orangeflossen), L. thayeri, & L. sp. Buckelkopf/Humphead. In English (or German) Römer's "Cic...

Laetacara identification - Updated with Pics

What is the best reference for identifying the various Laetacara species?

I have not been able to find much in the way of identification. I have mostly just found references to Kullander(1986) but I am not sure if that is a paper or his book.

Does anyone have any advice?

Re: paint

You have a couple choices: You can lay on latex paint with a brush or a roller. Just lay it on nice and thick. This is the easiest way. The problem is that it is the least durable way so you have to be careful not to scrape it off. You can also use spray paint. The thing is it is not real easy to ge...

Re: Snails that can tolerate Tanganyika water conditions

I have not seen native tanganyikan snails imported but I use olive nerites in all my tang tanks. The are small, pretty well armored and their eggs are not viable in freshwater so they do not reproduce. Also, they are superb algae eaters.
