Re: mixing feather fins

Well, last week while topping it off with a hose I forgot to turn off the hose. The jokers who built the overflow cut the overflow above the top of the tank. Yes, the entire basement would have had to fill up 8.5 ft before the water would go into the overflow pipe. The tank overflowed onto my carpet...

Re: mixing feather fins

As soon as it looks presentable, I will post pictures, but it really isn't in good shape yet.

Re: mixing feather fins

There are no videos on Youtube. The tank isn't complete yet. Lots of problems still, like the water isn't very clear, the rock work isn't set up yet. The lighting isn't quite right. I am not on facebook either. When the tank is done, I will make some kind of page to share it with others.

Re: mixing feather fins

One of the persons who helped set up the tank created a facebook page with some pictures of the tank.

Re: mixing feather fins

That was my initial thought when building the tank, but as I start putting rocks and fish into it, I realize that I cannot do "everything"; it is not infinitely large like the real lake is. For instance, I had imagined putting in Boulengerochromis, but obviously, a three foot predator that enjoys sc...

Re: mixing feather fins

The aquarium is about 5500 gallons. It is odd shaped, kind of like a lopsided U. It has several sand areas. I think it has about 96 sq ft or more of floor space, however, much of that is rocky. It is 5 ft deep. The U shape would fit into a rectangle of about 23 ft by 14 ft, but it is not rectangular...

Re: mixing feather fins

Thanks for the replies. I have a very large tank. I am wondering how much sand to leave open and how much to rock. I have significantly more sand bottom left than 6x2 and I have several areas, so it sounds like I am alright.

Tropheus with petrochromis

Is it possible to put petrochromis in with a tropheus colony?

mixing feather fins

I am wondering if feather fins will mate in a large tank if I mix the following:

Callochromis
xenotilapia
cyathopharynx
enantiopus

If so, how many square feet of sandy bottom would you think would be necessary?

Stocking a very large Tang tank

I am setting up a very large Tanganyikan Tank. It has been a minor life long ambition. The tank is ready for fish. I am an experienced Tanganyikan enthusiast. Throughout my life I have had several large tang tanks, such as 300s through 200s and many 125s. I have put tropheus with Fronts, lelupi, tet...

Re: Setting up a Lake Tanganyika tank

Stevenht,

I like the transcriptus instead of the marlieri. They are smaller, and I think better looking.

The multis are my favorite shellys after similis.

I love cyps. I think that would be a nice addition to what you are doing.

Re: My new 300 Gal Tang Tank

I sold my 300 gallon in 2012. I never did have any issue with the Frontosa eating other fish (except the cyps). My Lepidolamprologus ate many Julies though. In the end, however, I had three julies who were just too smart for them. I haven't had a tank since I sold everything in 2012. But Last night ...

Re: My new 300 Gal Tang Tank

Sorry, my post isn't clear. The blue is what I have had in the tank for around one year. The cyps didn't fight; the Frontosa ate my cyps. In an eight foot tank, it wouldn't really matter how many cyps I put in. They would do fine, if they could avoid being eaten. Also, frontosa do fine with Tropheus...

Re: My new 300 Gal Tang Tank

My list as proposed over one year ago as compared to what I have had for about one year : a) 8 Frontosa - 4 9 inch Frontosa Moba b) 8 tropheus species black and 8 tropheous moorii . (I have heard that I could do this without interbreeding. True?) Started with 30 pineapple, got dropsy and all by 8 di...

Re: 125 gallon stocking list - input wanted

One year later and still in the 90 gallon - All six Frontosa remain alive and well. Biggest is about 9 inches now. Still have six Tropheus Bemba. Added two to my five and one died from some strange disease (a hole in its side) about 6 months ago. Three Leleupi left. One was beaten by the other three...

Re: My new 300 Gal Tang Tank

Thanks for the replies. I appreciate the advice. It is true about the cyps. I started with 6 and now, after two batches of fry have just one male left. That male was relentless on the others. Perhaps I should have more cyps. The frontosa haven't given them even a glance so far, and I don't think the...

Re: 125 gallon stocking list - input wanted

I always put leleupi in my tang tanks because they add color. So far, they have never been too aggressive. They seem to only bother each other and they ignore the other fish. I used to have similis in the tank, but the brichardi bothered them and chased them until they died. I guess that I would say...
