Re: Vieja melanurus "Rio Yaxha"

Kevin, if those are infact from Rusty, you are in for some amazing looking fish! I was lucky enough to stop at Rusty's fish house en route to ACA last summer and the Vieja Melanura were bright orange, one of the most brightly colored fish I have ever seen! I was able to get a small group of them fro...

Re: Crenicichla from saxatilis group

Not a Sveni. A Sveni has a very distinct pattern on the latteral stripe.

Need to see a full shot of the dorsal fin upright to know the sexes.

Re: Tomochichla Tuba pics

Thanks a lot Rick! I have dug up some info on these ones, they were infact brought back to Winnipeg as fry, but, in 2004 rather than in 2007, the first spawn from this quartet of Tuba was in April or May of this year (2009), they have been quite a long project for a couple aquarists here in Winnipeg...

Re: Tomochichla Tuba pics

haha I wish I could take credit for the husbandry, but, they are in a 180 gal tank at a friend's house, this is the second spawn in about six weeks for him, the first batch are in a grow out tank now and these will likely be pulled next week. There are actually one male and three females, it has bee...

Tomochichla Tuba pics

I managed to shoot some photos of a pair of Tuba that are rearing a batch of fry, I think it's quite a rare opportunity that I have gotten, here are a few of the results. . . http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y249/rayq/cichlids/tuba-03.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y249/rayq/cichlids/tuba-04.j...

Re: Parachromis Motaguensis

I personally think that people are being too specific with their interpretation of the word, yes, inter-species crosses are certainly hybrids, but, every description of the word that I have read, is far broader than that, for example animals of different varieties, species, or races. For the record,...

Re: Parachromis Motaguensis

Thanks for the quick responses :) I see that we have the same outcome with the question, I believe that peoples understanding of the term "Hybrid" is where the problem lies. What is the "true" definition of the word?

Parachromis Motaguensis

I have been reading a thread on another forum regarding the crossing of a "Red Tiger" Motaguense with a "Gold" Motaguense. The point of the thread was weather this would be considered a hybrid or not. I would like to hear what the folks on this forum think, as a group that may be more scientific in ...
