Re: Importing wild caught threatened species?
These H. labridens are certainly wild caught Bas! I can't believe someone is catching endangered fish from Rio Verde and shipping them around the world and not hiding the fact.
Apparently some are arriving in the UK soon?

Importing wild caught threatened species?
Is it legal to be catching and importing wild caught species that are on the IUCN / C A R E S list? I ask because I have seen a worrying trend of these fish being offered for import namely H. labridens. Could someone possibly clear this issue up please.

If I remember correctly Graham, did these come in through Ross from a Jeff Rapps import around 2007/2008?

Re: Astatheros altifrons: Pre-Spawning Behavior
I have had mine a little while and found them to be quite slow growing fish, they only started pair bonding and spawning a little over a month ago. Here is a photo of the pair cleaning a stone ready for spawning. http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd49/nutty-73/DSC_8922_1.jpg They decided to use a d...

Re: Astatheros altifrons: Pre-Spawning Behavior
Very nice! I have a pair with fry at the moment, this is their second spawn as the first one failed. My pair don't appear to show the darker barring like yours, perhaps because they are in a tank with no other threatening occupants, only a group of pociellia gilli ? With the first spawn, I witnessed...

Re: Vieja ufermanni
Like V. heterospila, when I look at V. ufermanni; on a morphological sense they remind me more with bocourti and pearsei, especially when in spawning dress..?

Re: Sexing Herichthys Deppi
In my experience keeping and spawning deppii, females at some point will display a dorsal blotch, especially when dominant or sexually active. It looks like the two sparring in the video are dominant females, this doesn't look like pair bonding to me? Females will also display more orange dappling a...

The T. helleri is developing nice, do you only have the one? The nourissati is also coming along nicely.

Re: Cryptoheros nanoluteus?
Thanks for your opinions. :) I have a feeling that this fish doesn't fully comply with C. nanoluteus. Little details trouble me like the colouring and slight spangling on the unpaired fins. I guess first impressions count and if in doubt, then best not to breed from them. I will keep the female, but...

Re: Cryptoheros nanoluteus?
I'm not aware of any known-provenance nanoluteus, altoflavus or myrnae in the US (I've kept and bred nanos and myrnae...but they're all aquarium strain). Are there any lines in Europe that are verifiably pure? Matt This is the first time that I have questioned UK nanoluteus, to be fair this was a l...

Cryptoheros nanoluteus?
Hi Guys, I would like your opinion if possible. Do you think that the female nanoluteus in the photo could possibly have a mixture with C. myrnae? The gold markings on the flanks doesn't look quite right to me, also it looks quite deep bodied for nanoluteus:? I was hoping to try and pair them, but I...
