Re: Cenote Cristalino, Yucatan Penisula, Mexico.

Another fish I wish was available in the hobby from Cenote Cristalino, the Gambusia yucatana.

Also in the video you can see Rocio octofasciata and Rhamdia guatemalensis.

Hope you enjoy the footage.

Re: Cenote Cristalino, Yucatan Penisula, Mexico.

Your videos are great. Most enjoyable to watch. What camera were you using, if you don't mind me asking? Jim Thanks Jim, I was using a Nikon Coolpix AW110, a very good camera for the money it cost, especially since it has dropped price in the last year. I fully recommend it. Wonderful videos indeed...

Astatheros robertsoni defending fry in Cenote Escondido.

A short underwater video of a pair of Astatheros robertsoni defending a small amount of fry in Cenote Escondido, Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico. This video was shot in September, I was surprised to see this breeding pair, as the previous 2 years I had visited the Cenote and found none breeding. This was ...

Re: Tomocichla Asfraci ?

I am currently keeping a pair, undivided, I usually divide when it comes to these large, rare aggressive cichlids, but they seem so good together, been this way for 3 months roughly now. The female does has a few places the male cannot physically get to her. http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd29/d...

Re: Astatheros Rostratus

Thank you for your responses! The rostratum I am picking up are 3-4" already, they where raised by Andy, they are looking very nice in some holding tanks! I am in the process of setting up their tank with a back to nature background, I hope to have this done and ready by Sunday, lots of work do, at ...

Re: Astatheros Rostratus

David, as long as you remember that the rostratus are the most important fish in the tank - and thus refrain from keeping them with agressive or much larger fish - nothing can go wrong They eat anything - and will, therefore need enough veggie food. But for the rest? Enjoy I do envy you, I have my ...

Re: Astatheros Rostratus

Beautiful fish Alex and long time no speak! I have just bought 6 rostratum, not collected them yet, but any tips on keeping them? Any tank mate suggestions? They are a really good size, say 3/4".

Hope you are keeping well and the spawn is a successful one!

Re: ID on a unknown astatheros/amphilophus species

Indeed, Dave, I even bred them. My experiences are given above: They are very sensitive towards bad water and bacteria. I have tried them a few times, each time without succes. Then it worked, in a tank with very littel fish, and when they got too big, I was able to put them in a new tank, that is,...

Re: ID on a unknown astatheros/amphilophus species

I'm quite certain you have 'Cichlasoma' calobrensae, a species which used to be grouped in the longimanus group, but recently has been remouved from this group This is a rather sensitive species from Panama. Very beautiful indeed, but hard to keep. Clean water is very important. Thet are not rheoph...

ID on a unknown astatheros/amphilophus species

I recently picked up a group of 9 of these unknown fish, I know who they came from, but I cannot get in contact with them. Here is the largest of the fish, I am thinking calobrensis? http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd29/davidefc_4life/DSC_5877.jpg http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd29/davidefc_...

Re: Theraps Coeruleus spawn!

Congratz with spawning a uncommon cichlid! Shame you had to pull the eggs, I have had to do this in the past with a pair of Thorichthys maccuipinnis 'Rio Manso, Tomate' they kept eating the wrigglers. Just watch the pair, the male wasnt very happy when I pulled the eggs and took it out on the female...
