I lost a Geophagus Steindachneri

Here is the story. I was moving 5 Steinys ( a year plus old) from a 38 gallon into a 75 gallon. I removed all decor and the only thing left in the tank was the sponge filter. I netted 3 females and 1 male and placed them into their new tank. I go to get the last male and move the filter. No steiny. ...

Re: Male G.Steindachneri Holding

Carl, maybe this trait runs in the family. I was feeding my steiny's tonight and noticed the large male and a female not eating. Both chewing away and chasing away their siblings. I will see how long he continues to do so. Looks like your group has settled in nicely.

Re: Multiple Tomocichla Sieboldii with open sores?

Thank you all for your input. I have ended up with 4 that have the infection. I isolated them in a quaranteen tank. I was only able to find erythromycin which treats a variety of problems. Already within 6 hours I noticed an improvement. I will keep an eye on the others. I stepped up my water change...

Multiple Tomocichla Sieboldii with open sores?

I have a group of Sieboldii almost a year old. 7 to be exact. I have 3 which have an open sore on their side. Less than a month ago I had a male who showed the same sore. I quaranteened him in a 20 gallon, treated with melafix, and water changes. He was not eating and died a few days after. I now ha...

Re: What type of heaters do you use?

How do you "mount" your submersible heater In my tanks with sumps the heaters lay on the bottom with suction cups attached. In my other tanks they are horizontal in the lower middle of the tank. This is more for the convenience of not having to unplug the heater during a water change. It also allow...

Re: What type of heaters do you use?

Old post new review. I recently purchased 2 Finnex 500w titanium heaters. Here is there description: http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee205/Leviathan_64/DSC00202.jpg The Finnex Compact Electronic Titanium Heaters maintain water temperature within +/-2ºF of the set value providing a safe, healthy, ...

Re: Tomocichla Sieboldii Inquiry

How's this for a bump? 1 year and going well. My group is down to 5. I have two pairs and a lonely male. One pair spawned and had free swimming fry yesterday. Today I believe they are gone or hiding really well. The pairs occupy opposite ends of a 110 gallon 5 ft. tank. Their breeding colors are qui...

I don't think you waited too long. Hopefully the ones you have will be the strong ones. I pulled fry yesterday. A few more weeks now for me. Hope all is good with you and the family. Full time next week. Boo.

Re: Cichlids from México

Very well done. Many species and they all seem to have fry. I may have to put a dive trip on my bucket list.
My questions: Is their narration and music in your dvd? How long is the run time? Lastly, How much time do spend under water? :D

A very nice active tank. I agree with swapping for sand. It's the "etc." that I like in your tank. Great looking severum.

Re: What type of heaters do you use?

In most my tanks I use aqua clear submersibles. I have had no issues over a couple years (knocking on wood). I purchased a titanium tube 300w from ViaAqua many years ago @ $35 for my 125. It has preformed, as I would expect, with no issues going on 4 years now. When I have to purchase another heater...

Re: Tomocichla Sieboldii Inquiry

A one month update. All 8 are doing well. I moved them into a 75 gallon with 5 juvenile festae of the same size. Surprisingly, at this moment, the sieboldii are more aggressive than the festae. I combined them for the sole reason of getting the festae to come out of hiding. It worked well. The tank ...

Tomocichla Sieboldii Inquiry

I've searched the internet and books and have read the limited information that I could find. I've now come to you whoever you may be for a little more information. I just received a group of 8 F1 sieboldii juveniles that are between 1" and 2". What I am looking for is some personal information to h...
