Black dorsal and no Iridescence spangling in the unpaired, red orange coloring, looks very female, never seen a male look like that....

I believe their were at least poecilia mexicanus at least at 2 locations (Xiloa and Granada, lake Nicaragua ), where multispinosa was....I would have to check my records...

Like Darrell said they are found in areas that aren't preferred, I found them on a few occasions to be in shallow hot water full of plants....

So true. In Holland, there is apparently a population of Poecilia reticulata living in the stream where the cooling water exhaust of a large steelfactory is. They grow over 12 cm (4,5"!) in size and manage to survive through the - sometimes pretty cold - Dutch winters as the water is never too cold...

Any ideas how to spawn Texas Cichlids? I've had them for almost a year fish range from 3-5", supposedly they can spawn at 2 inches???

Darrell no confusion here, I've had all 3 of the red hump complex, as for not seeing the true pellegrini they were around, there are a few venders who had them recently, adults of all 3 are easily distinguished from each other.....maybe pellegrini weren't around maybe 10 years ago but things change....

I've kept them a few times the biggest ones I had were 6 inch males, before I passed them on, the biggest one I saw was at an aca which was around 7"...to answer your question

Matt I think you are right on, I'm sure there are a few melanistic meeki out there, if you can pinpoint where a fish is from you have to be that good....even in a locale there is variation...
