DCG Informationen

I just read an article about the 2017 Extravaganza in the magazine of the German Cichlid Association.

Sounds like you all showed Wolfgang Staeck a good time! :D

Re: FS: 30,000 pounds of aquarium substrate

Dee - On the subject of selling it as aquarium substrate, it was made for swimming pools. If it leached anything potentially harmful into the water, it would not be allowed for this purpose. I am pretty sure the standards for pools are stricter than for fish tanks. You could put on the bag that it's...

Re: FS: 30,000 pounds of aquarium substrate

The seller is in British Columbia. That's all I know. His name is Ian Bideshi (ibideshi@consolidatedcoatings.com). I doubt he'd want to send 5 or 10 pounds of the stuff, but might be worth contacting him for larger amounts. Apparently he has a variety of colors. He was going to check grain size - T-...

FS: 30,000 pounds of aquarium substrate

Hi All, Long time no hear! The subject of this thread is not a joke. As you might recall, 3M Color Quartz used to be a very popular aquarium substrate, until 3M discontinued the product some years ago. Cichlid-forum.com had a very long thread going where people exchanged information on where to get ...

Re: male peacocks or pair of juli's?

29G is very small for 2 adult peacocks - divided or not. For a pair of Julis the tank is perfect. I'd go with the Julis.

10G tanks

I haven't bought or sold any in ages, so for those in the know, what's a realistic price these days for 10G tanks - assuming they are clean and in like-new condition?

A few of the mods on Cichlid-forum.com have recently compiled this article on bloat. As far as I know, it is currently the most comprehensive resource available on this disease and its treatment. Best of luck!

Re: Lawsuit over name - monsterfishkeepers

This is a nice article summarizing the whole story: Consumerist If you support this, you can really make a difference, because Monster Energy has already dropped a similar law suit against a microbrewery due to bad publicity. I just signed MonsterFishKeeper's Change.org Petition , and have emailed M...

Re: Metriaclima lanisticola

Crenicara punctulata was known to be a sex changer over 20 years ago, I learned of it at the 1990 ACA convention. There are also many anecdotal stories of other species doing the same thing, but Crenicara was proven to be a sex changer. Are you sure that in this case adult fish of a proven sex turn...

Re: Metriaclima lanisticola

Yes, the whole shell dwelling thing with these fish is a bit overrated. Possible some Malawi nut could no longer cope with the fact that only Lake Tanganyika has shell dwellers, so they made the whole thing up. That said, M. lanisticola has another intriguing characteristic that in my opinion ...

Re: Metriaclima lanisticola

Not to hijack this thread, but how agressive are these and how do I go about getting a group? Josh They are amongst the least aggressive mbuna I have kept - similar to rusties and yellow labs. Unless he has sold his breeders in Akron, you could email or PM FrankM and he could probably set you up. Y...

Re: Metriaclima lanisticola

On the bag of fish he was using the first picture in Frank's post and calling it the father. That would have been correct. The seller is Frank Myerski, a.k.a. FrankM on this forum. He bought my colony of M. lanisticola and is breeding them like crazy :D He is using the photo with my permission. I a...

Re: Tropheus Kaisermoorii I & Kaisermoorii II

If preserving the biodiversity of fish in the hobby is important to you, you should not cross breed any fish with distinctive genetic traits, especially if they come from different collection points. Whether or not the different fish have been scientifically described as separate species (which woul...

Re: OCA Cichlid Extravaganza editorial

Great article, Juan Miguel. I am sure the OCA will appreciate the free advertising, and I know I wasn't the only one who enjoyed your presentation at the Extravaganza. Since you specifically mention Scott Myer's Amphilophus hogaboomorum in your article, if you wanted to ad my photo of the BoS, I'd b...
