Splendens is a name given to several species of unrelated fishes. Tuba, as far as I can tell, is used for just the one species of cichlid.

I think we have all experienced a little of the OPs frustration over the years. I guess we have to remember that scientists are human :) and have the same range of abilities and character flaws as the rest of us. It may be that some papers are badly written or rushed and come to unsound conclusions....

Beyond the Congo

The NY Times is carrying a blog by Dr. Melanie Stiassny who is surveying and collecting fresh water fish in the Congo and Kasai Rivers. Worth a read I think.
