I would agree Philippe! I once had a brood of dovii with one fry having a "John Dory" looking purple spot on one side. It was rather interesting that it's siblings picked on it................................

Looks like a genetic abnormality (to the usual of the species anyway)............. I wouldn't think this is a courtship dress.

Perhaps a urophthalmus x melanurus cross................. ??

Retailers or trade people aren't interested in keeping up with science or reclassification of the fish they are selling. They want to make money, simple. Does anyone have any input on the matter??

I was just wondering if the pair having gone clear white and jet black stripes and defending a nest could possibly be sexually mature at this size. It seems obvious that they are, but I left them to it and never saw any eggs or fry.

I have a young group of Theraps lentiginosum F1, Rio Corzo. Which I've had for a year or so now. They are SO slow growing. In a 400 liter tank, 10 of them with some livebearers. I don't keep mine with any flow, but highly oxygenated via sponge filters................ no HITH to note............. but beautiful, healthy, easy and rewarding fish............ Great Choice!
