Re: S.Leucosticta Breeding Question.

So, did you manage to breed your S leucosticta in the end?

Re: S.Leucosticta Breeding Question.

I don't know if you're still trying to breed leucosticta. It's probably a bad idea to try to re-match pairs; in my experience Satanoperca pair-bond, and while the pairs are prone to a bit of bickering, they stay together and will breed a few times in a row if conditions are right. The right conditio...

Re: Retroculus lapidifer courting

With my Satanoperca fry I have to change the rearing tank's water every day (I change nearly 100% each time) and add medication (I use eSHA 2000) every day. Otherwise the fry get sick and either die or get pinched/deformed fins.

Re: Retroculus lapidifer courting

Might it be worthwhile getting an aquarium divider which you can use if your pair get 'busy' again? I use an acrylic divider with my Satanoperca mapiritensis and it works really well. It gives the brooding pair peace of mind - they immediately start releasing the fry so the babies can eat - without ...

Re: orange head electric blue Ram

Hi Rey, As a tiny suggestion, your rams might be happier if your tank had a fine layer of sand in the bottom for them to sift through. They are, after all, tiny earth-eaters! I had orange-head electric blue rams but they didn't do well in the hard tap water we have here in London (UK). My M. altispi...

Hi Martin, do you use RO in your tank? What are your water parameters?

Florent,

These fish look a lot like a fish identified as P Altum in the Dec 12 issue of Amazonas.

Re: Satanoperca mapiritensis and fry

Hi Amazonia, the shops you mention are definitely my locals - I've been to each of them many times, and indeed got my first Satanoperca from Wholesale Tropicals.

Re: Satanoperca mapiritensis and fry

My Jurupari Satanoperca are not old enough yet to spawn ... looking forward to it Thank you for sharing your success with photos :) Thanks Zenins! Some of my fish started trying to breed at a relatively small size (4"), so you may not need to wait for long! In my experience, keeping your water at a...

Re: Satanoperca mapiritensis and fry

Hi Amazonia, you're right, S. mapiritensis are not supposed to occur in Brazil at all, but I do have a bunch of wild fish confirmed to have been caught in Brazil that are almost certainly a form of S. mapiritensis - and they were bought at different times, from different (trusted) importers, so this...

Re: Satanoperca mapiritensis and fry

They came in the same shipment as a batch of fish from Brazil, and I've since bought more Satanoperca caught in Brazil that look like the dad. But who knows! They might be from Colombia. The importer didn't disclose any information about the collection site. The mom looks different from my other Sat...

Satanoperca mapiritensis and fry

Hi everyone, I thought I'd share some photos of my breeding pair of Satanoperca sp. (cf mapiritensis?) and their offspring. The mom and dad look quite different from one another but were the only Satanoperca in the importer's shipment and are presumed to have been collected together. No collection s...
