Re: Satanoperca acuticeps - breeding

Hi. That's a shame... But I think you will have to be patient and give them time. They usually need some spawns to finally get it right.
After all,it's still a young pair and this was probably their first spawn ever...
Good luck with them! And please keep us informed... :)

Re: Satanoperca acuticeps - breeding

Hello, nice to see there are very dedicated aquarists in Poland too!(I once passed Poznan when driving to visit my ex girlfriend's parents, she was from Gostynin) Now on topic; this is a fantastic result,to get your S.acuticeps to spawn!! And the fish look fantastic too. 8) I keep S.daemon myself.(an...

Re: Uaru fernandezyepezi or Panda Uaru

Sometimes there actually are F1 U.fernandezyepezi available in Germany("german bred" on stock lists),so there must be definitely a couple of people who breed them succesfully. I think it is surely a good idea when you keep the matched pair alone in a tank(maybe some small dither fish, like "surface o...

Re: Uaru fernandezyepezi or Panda Uaru

Rainer Stawikowski(Germany) and a French guy(can't remember his name) spawned this species succesfully.
If you have a true and healthy pair, and your waterparameters are ok,just be patient. They'll get to it one day.

Re: Uaru fernandezyepezi or Panda Uaru

Hi, I kept a group of 4 U.fernandezyepezi for about 5 years(2005-2010),and there was 1 matched pair with them. They spawned several times and although it was definitely a "true" pair(different breeding tubes),they allways ate their eggs immediately. So I can't say I was "succesful" in breeding them....

Re: Satanoperca mapiritensis and fry

Anyway, they are nice fish. I read you're from London...I've been to London so many times in the past(visiting friends, going out, watching football... And whenever I was there I allways tried to visit shops like "Wholesale Tropicals" and "The Aquatic Design Centre"(I believe they are in Great Portland...

Re: Satanoperca mapiritensis and fry

Looking at the last of your pics("dad and fry",but you can also see the head of mum in the background) I think they are both the same species.(think, because I'm not 100% sure). Normally,S.mapiritensis come from Venezueala and probably also Colombia. But one thing is for sure; identifying Satanoperca...

Re: Satanoperca mapiritensis and fry

Nice breeding result. I kept S.mapiritensis(or cf.mapiritensis) a good 10 years ago. I bought them as S. sp."Orinoco". They looked similar to yours. They are indeed immediate(ovophilous) mouthbrooders.

Re: The Satanoperca daemon Are 'Dancing' Tonight

One of the first who succesfully bred them was a German guy named Eckinger. His breeding pair was in a tank 100cmx60cm(wide)x50cm(high). They were alone in there(apart from a catfish,I think it was an Ancistrus sp.) and raised their fry perfectly. But if your tank is only 30cm wide,I don't know... S...

Re: The Satanoperca daemon Are 'Dancing' Tonight

What's a 40 gallon "long"? I mean, how long is the tank and how wide?
But if they have a really good pair bond, and maybe you put some tetra's in as dither fish, I certainly think it could work.
I would also try to get the Ph even lower than 6.5, say something like 5-5.5

Re: S.daemon

Glad you liked the info. @Carlt54: your daemon look fine! @Notho2000: your daemon also look fine despite being in a tank with synspilum(I think?),but now you moved them to a tank of their own,I think they will do better long term. Also nice to hear that your acuticeps are doing ok,not an easy fish t...
