Re: Buen Suceso, Ometepe, Nicuragua

FishBase has national lists -- people are discovering new livebearers still, but I don't know what is in Rio Buen Suceso. Other national livebearers are Alfaro huberi, Brachyrhaphis holdridgei, Belonesox belizanus (not likely there, but if it's in the Big Lake, it might be there), Gambusia nicarague...

Re: Buen Suceso, Ometepe, Nicuragua

Hello all, i have most of the readily available articles / resources on this biotope, and have many of the available species from there. I was wondering if anyone here has anything else on this river and its species? I have the Willem H DVD & articles, TFH articles, but was looking for some more in...

Re: Stocking help!!!

Jaguar males can get into the 18 inch range. Red Devils also get some size on them, and the Texas Cichlids are the smallest of what you're considering and not a fish that shares native waters with many, if any, other cichlids. You could try raising some juveniles in the tank and thinning it to three...

Lake Apanas Convicts with fry

I have two pairs and a single mom (one male left her and spawned a second time with a larger female) with free swimming fry and a third pair tending eggs or wigglers. Two bachelor males that were getting beaten up into the tank upper corners went into a second tank with some guppies to eat and will ...

Re: My Convicts from Lago Apanas

Got one fish that lost an eye out of the tank and it seemed to calm down -- not quite sure cause and effect here, but I'm now left with two single males swimming on top and not bothering each other and three and a half pairs with territory on the bottom of the 80 inch long tank. A scientist doing re...

Re: My Convicts from Lago Apanas

TheFourthPairMaybe-2.jpg Two pairs and a single female whose male has another female appear to be sitting on eggs or wigglers. This couple has been courting. She's not particularly eager to spawn with him. He's a rather nice looking fish, but a bit frayed still from being in a tank with African cic...

Re: My Convicts from Lago Apanas

Further news is that three of the females are nesting and a fourth seems to be getting out-manuevered by the other females and their males. One of the males is on the nests of two females and has tried to break up spawning efforts of the third pair. One of the females seems to be not driving away th...

My Convicts from Lago Apanas

I believe these are now considered to be Amatitlania siquia." Lake Apanas is a man-made lake, so populations of this might be from different creek and river populations. The males don't have red unpaired fins (other aquarists have caught some like that near Managua). Air temps. here are in the 16 C ...
