Re: Help with id

Yes I was referring to maculicauda, definitely the fish I was thinking of. Thanks
Does sound like it would be thrown around a fair bit on quite a few fish.
I'll do that in future, thanks

Re: Help with id

Thanks for the replies crew.. Yeah it was sold as a coatzacoalcos, but figured anything in Aus labeled as that would have to be a hybrid of sorts, could it have black belt in it? When it darkens up has similar marking but with heaps of blue. Ordinarily not a fan of hybrids but if it is it's personal...

Re: Sex my Cubans

Ahh, nice fish festae. Thanks mate, yeah still have them, was going to try, spent ages looking for a female, finally got one & the one at the bottom of the pic killed it that night :( He was about 4" then about 7" -8" now. Might try search again, but will probably have to buy another fist full of ju...

Re: Sex my Cubans

Are the festae in your profile pic yours?
You could probably use them to help sex your Cubans pretty similar identifiers in the 2 species eg: body shape & dorsal fin..

Re: Sex my Cubans

The one at the back is female, I'd be pretty sure of that, the black dorsal is usually a pretty good indicator with Cubans... The one in front however I can't tell, again I'm looking at the dorsal fin These are my 2 males, don't know if this pic helps at all http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/01/06/begu8e...

Re: Sex my Cubans

I'd say female too,
Potentially could be vented I'm not the best at it though, If they were feeling frisky it'd be easier,

Re: N. Haitiensis

Hi there, I would like to know if members here have had experience with the Black Nasty. What information can you give me? I am thinking of getting some, but before that I wanted to get some opinions from people who have kept them. Let me know if you find em for less than $350 @ 3cm! I'd be keen on...

Re: freidrichsthalli and loisellei

I probably already know the answer but Any easy way to sex these guys at a small size, I got 13 of em (Freddies) & there are about 5 that have up to a half inch on the others & are much darker with lots more blue in em. Would it be safe to say male? All fish got at the same time... Or as I suspect a...

Re: P. friedrichsthalii...

Thanks bas, You're spot on with size all around the 1" mark, I've got 14 at this size looking to get a pair or 2 out of them... They're in a 225gal tank with a 2" Cuban that I just couldn't catch. That's interesting about the markings & aggression I've noticed the darker few that are more aggressive...

Re: Overkill?

Cool! Sounds like a solid setup, just straight out the tap or do you run through like a RO filter? Now you mention that setup it's got me thinking :) my old man does irrigation maintenance for schools, gov, ect I could get him to hook me up on trade price, never thought of adapting that side of thin...

Re: Overkill?

Automatic water change you say now that's an idea!! How's that work do you have a reserve of clean water to pump in or something? I thought I was smart getting a hole drilled for a tap in this tank haha. Yeah I was aware of temperaments when I saw the lfs had green morph splendida I had to buy them ...

Re: Overkill?

Thanks Dan, Nice that's awesome I wasn't sure the exact conversion I'm used to the metric system.. Yeah definitely gotta use a sump the bottom or the tank is drilled & overflow weir in the back left corner.. Plus then I don't have to run air stones & heaters in the display space.. Although running 2...

Overkill?

He's building me a 4' sump 16" wide & 20' high so I'll have room for plenty of media I am also g...

That's awesome.. I'm definitely going to do that. Yeah the last thing I'd want is soil spread throughout the sand.
