Realy nice fish and those are indeed to specie Sao Paulo that were described in a German magazine (Datz). I send you the link remember and did some (poor) translation, haha! Re: Geophagus sp. 'Sao Paulo'

I never heard of specie Sao Paulo but they are definitely brasiliensoids. I know there is a rare specie labeled as "Geophagus" brasiliensis Sao Francisco with a lot of orange colorations. What is the size of the fish?

Re: Algae growth

Algea like high nitrate levels and becouse of the frequent large water changes your tank has a very low nitrate level. Algea also like oxygen rich water and lots of (blue in the) light spectrum. Hopefully this helps. Oto's also feed on algae wafers and spirulina. Except for that they scavenge the ta...

Re: Apistogramma hoignei

YES!!! I was hoping for that answer (-; Today I went back to the lfs and turned 3 fish in (amongst them the female Borelli) and came home with only one female hoignei. Oooh boy oooh boy did they get a wrong ratio of female and male hoignei. I already had one female and we could only detect a second ...

Re: New 75G SA Setup

Really a wonderful tank and a very interesting cichlid community! You have a nice group of Bolivians and with such a group they display very nice interesting and funny behaviour. They do need lots of plants to hide and to feel secure. The Pindare is a beautiful smaller Geo and I realy like them. Wha...

Re: Apistogramma hoignei

I suspected her to be a female borelli but I didn't know for sure. The hoignei don't show the spot that much and most of the time not even the dotted band. Most likely these fish are males. In the shop the fish were paler but when they were for several hours in my tank they showed some red in the ta...

Re: Apistogramma hoignei

Thanks for all the information and help! Yesterday I was quit convinced I bought 3 females but today they feel happier in their temporarily home and show slightly more color,.....and at least 3 of them show red in the tail,....so of the 6 fish I have at least 3 males. So I'm not to happy abouth this...

Re: Mikrogeophagus altispinosa

Great looking fish!!! I'm pleasantly surprised by the quality of the pics! Keep up the good work! It is also my favorite fish and unfortunately the specie doesn't always get the attention they deserve. Most people run them by in the lfs. Oooh and by the way,.....did you know they do best in small gr...

Re: Apistogramma Honglsoi

Richard,.....I like the hongsloi very much and imo it is one of the most beautiful apisto's available! Unfortunately they are from southern part of Venezuela and don't fit in my biotope tank (I have chosen the hoignei). Your fish look healthy and amazingly strong colored! Great fish Richard,....like...

Re: Apistogramma hoignei

Thanks so much Mike for the help. The one female I suspected to be hoignei died on me unfortunately. The second female was most likely a borellii and I returned her back to the lfs. I was wrong abouth the size and she was abouth 3/4 inch (TL) in size. The male must be abouth 1 1/2 inch or maybe a bi...

Re: Apistogramma hoignei

Thanks Mike for the info. I still have some questions,.....I have 2 females. One shows no line for most of the time but if she does it is a line. The second female shows all the time a doted line and darker edges of the fins and a strong bar across the eye. The dotted line begins with 3 strong dots ...

Apistogramma hoignei

Yesterday I bought a small harem (1 male 2 female) of Apistogramma hoignei,....I hope! Unfortunately the shop owner mixed two batches of apisto's in one tank. The second specie is A. borellii. Males are easy to tell apart but this isn't the case with females. Can anyone offer me info on the diferenc...

Re: Guianacara

Thanks again Richard and I realy like your fish! Especially the Copperhead and they do have some great colorations of the paired and the caudal fins!!! The male must have been even stronger colored and realy a pity you don't have pics of him! Well you were right,...my fish aren't the copperhead and ...

Re: Guianacara

Thanks Richard for the info abouth your water parameters. I keep mine at 26C, PH=7 and GH=6. I have to soften up the water a bit more and add more RO water during water change. I heard some aggression issues from Guianacara when they are in pairs and this would not be the case in small groups. I bou...

Re: Guianacara

Hey Richard, Thanks for the response and the pic of your Sphenozona! There is really a lack on info about the Guianacara and I agree that the Genus is a bit of a mess. Differences of several "species" are small and for now the identification by lateral blotch seem to be the most reliable. So for now...

Guianacara

Hi to all of you, I'm no new member to this forum but I only posted a few times before. Because this site contains a lot of specialists and knowledgeable people I like to ask which specie of Guianacara you think this is. They are sold to me as sp. Rio Caroni but I'm not convinced of that. In the mid...

Hi Bas, How are you doing? After our phone call last week I did found some info on you're filters (on forums) The tanks I have planed are not that big and the tank of 75 gallon (300 liter) will be the home of some Gymnogeophagus. I have to benefit the length of the tank (to create enough hiding plac...
