Re: Aequidens I.D. help please.

Lisa they arrived in a LFS as juveniles as contaminants. The LFS had no idea what they were. Thanks cichla, that's what I thought. They look similar to the fish in this link. http://acuarismo-mdq.blogspot.com.au/2009/12/aequidens-coeruleopunctatus.html But also to the first photo on Alfs site of "Ae...

Re: Columbia rams vs Venezuelan rams

I almost feel like that is blasphemy Mike. Location variations are not important, even if it's only colour variations? That's like me telling some one it's O.K. to breed your male Apistogramma cf. agassizii ("Pastell", Tamshiyacu) with a female Apistogramma cf. agassizii (Ampiyacu). It's just not so...

Blue acara

Hi guys,

Quick question. Are there any wild populations of Blue acaras that have a white edging to their fins as opposed to the standard orange edging.

Re: Biotodoma Cupido

PK333- what's the sex ratio on the group up for sale? Have you seen them? do they have any distinguishable markings? G'day timber , The seller believes the group to be two males and two females, but many people are not so sure. I have only seen photos of them online, as they are located in a state ...

Biotodoma Cupido

Hi guys, Has anyone here successfully raised a spawn of Biotodoma Cupido? I would like to know under what conditions members have bred these eartheaters. There are a couple of colonies spread throughout Australia, but as of yet no one appears to have successfully spawned them. When some do come up f...

Re: Apistogramma aggassizi "Double Red" ID confirmation

G'day Colby Dixon,

It looks very much like the agassizii "double red" or "red gold" that are being imported into Australia from Malaysia at the moment. I currently have a trio myself at the moment, but I don't have any good photo's to add.

Re: Heiko Bleher on Geophagus sp. Orange Head

I guess the section I wished discussed was that orange heads are not found in the Rio Araguaia according to Bleher. Forget the fact that Bleher may have got his rivers mixed up, as I was under the impression that the Rio Araguaia was an affluent of the Rio Tocantins. Weidner (sp?) sites in his book ...

Heiko Bleher on Geophagus sp. Orange Head

Hey guys, I have posted this topic elswhere, and one of the comments was to get the opinion of the guys over here at the CRC. There has been quite some discussion here in Oz for some time on how to distinguish between the Tapajos and Araguaia orange heads. Recently Heiko Bleher joined in the discuss...

Re: Dither Fish

I have found that N. beckfordi are very effective fry predators. I have had them in tanks with both L. curviceps and L. dorsigera, and they picked off any stray fry, and the older the fry, the harder it is for the parents to keep them together.

Varying tank temperature

G'day guys, I know quite a few people here keep Uruguayan and Argentinian cichlids which need a cooling off period each year. However I am wondering if anyone varies the temperatre for thier cichlids from the Amazon drainage throughout the year. I live in northern Australia and we are half way throu...

Re: laetacara ???

Very nice looking Laetacara Ray, I'm jealous. I thought they looked liked L. sp. 'Buckelkopf' before I read your post. I am a very big fan of laeatacara. I only have two 3'x18"x18" tanks, one has a breeding pair of curviceps and the other has a breeding pair of dorsigera. I am a novice at best, but ...

Re: Are there any sandsifters that can live in 55 gallon.

Hi tommi,

I'm wondering if those sites are referncing each other (or more likely the other two are referncing fishbase, who references Kulander).

If your breeding G. iporangensis and they are maxing out at around 4 inches, I'll happily tell my LFS they have a different variant of brasiliensis.
