Re: Paint for LARGE home built plywood tanks.

They will be between 200 and 230 gallons. I think I'll use the front and bottom to make 2 but I might be getting a 125 with a broken bottom free so maybe I'll use the bottom from mine to fix it. I will be building it the way Mike Neelon used to make them.

Re: Paint for LARGE home built plywood tanks.

Thanks, I'll have to check out the DVD, and that paint looks like it will work perfectly. I have built a few it is not hard, but you have to take your time and be careful while you are screwing them together.

Re: Help. Need a help with my Venustus. Hole in the head?

Clout and water changes between treatments will help get rid of it.

You will still need to do some pretty large water changes on a regular basis.

Paint for LARGE home built plywood tanks.

I have a 125 gallon tank with a chip that I feel is too big to use on one corner so I am thinking about building a big tank using the good piece but I don't think you can get the Pratt & Lambert 2 part epoxy paint we used to use. What are people using these days?

Re: Nitrates still high after water change

Kyle, I agree for the most part. I have never owned a Nitrate/Nitrite test kit for freshwater. I do keep a hardness, Ph, and Ammonia kit around. The first 2 are because I keep so many soft water fish and I need to check to see where the values are when I mix RO and tapwater. The ammonia kit will giv...

Re: Nitrates still high after water change

Just continue to monitor the ammonia. I would suggest only doing 10 to 30% water changes. Even though you are using a canister filter the entire aquarium is alive and you may be setting it back. How long has the tank been up? A 65 gallon tank can take a long time to cycle especially if you don't let...

Re: Lepidiolamprologus lemairii

My apoligies, I didn't understand that Benoit meant to say that it was not a Lepidiolamprologus. I did think it was lemairii. What I thought he was saying was it was not lemairii. The changing of names has been a constant problem, as things are shuffled from one to another. It has been obvious for e...

Re: Lepidiolamprologus lemairii

Yes I do, I have also searched images and I still can't see how anyone can say it it or isn't that fish based on the head shot. I know proper identifications are important.

Mark I was asking Benoit to explain what it was I believe it is lemairii based on fish I kept many years ago.

Re: Lepidiolamprologus lemairii

So what is it? It resembles the lemairii I am familiar with but without seeing the entire fish I am not sure that it is but I am not sure that it isn't and I kept them years ago and they were the real thing.

Re: Geophagus sp."Sunshine Diamond Surinam"

Surinamensis is a catch all name for commercially imprted fish with no locality data. I worked in the wholesale business for many years and we saw a lot of different fish that were imported as "surinamensis". I learned how to tell where they were actually from by what contaminants came in with them ...

Re: Lighting, issue with too much??

My first thoughts were that if you are keeping mbuna, it is probably a good thing because it will cause aglae to grow and they will benifit from it. If you are keeping mostly peacocks it could be a problem. I am also not very up to date on LED lighting I have seen it, it looks like a good idea but I...
