Re: Herichthys Bartoni Spawn Pics

I'd want to be on the fry list too ...if i had space. Always wanted to try keeping bartoni , but I hear they are another big aggressive fish similar to Cubans. I jsut don't have tank space to dedicate to big mean fish.....yet Best of luck to ya , hopefully you can keep this species circulating aroun...

Re: Thorichthys mixteco's, hybrids?

Hello, Wow I have had a few species that were sold to me as T maculipinnis ( ellioti) as well as some mixteco golds. Ihave to say i would expect that they will eventualy receive their own designation. I am really surprised to hear that they have been lumped in with macs. They seem to have a more lai...

Re: EXTRAVAGANZA 2011 IS COMING!!!!!

Reserved a room last week. Hoping I can grow out enough fish to cover my gas and room ( be great if it gave me som e money for the auction by not counting on it ) Haven't registered yet as I am not sure what time I'll be getting there. Always enjoy the "Ganza" this will be my first year actually sta...

Re: Thinning a group of Thorichthys socolofi down to a pair

Steve . So far they are doing very well. I am starting to see some more colors in the last few days . While mostly subtle , there are a few that have some nice spangles on there opercular area. They are a great lil fish for me so far. Not quite as colorful as the ellioti or mixteco golds though . I ...

Re: Thinning a group of Thorichthys socolofi down to a pair

Steve , That is exactly what i would try. The one male with all the females that dont currently have eggs sounds like your best bet to me . Do you have any pictures of this group? Are these the parent group of the fry you sold me at OCA ? I would really like to see what the adults look like! ON a si...

Re: Gender ID T. pasiones/ and other Q's

Well after browsing some other threads I ran across John Heatons acount of havng the first reported T pasiones from Lake Peten , thus meaning that the fish I bought at ACA 2009 would have to have been from a locale other than Lake Peten . I will have to recontact the seller oce again to try to confi...

Gender ID T. pasiones/ and other Q's

Hello, I have 5 Thorichthys pasiones that should be getting fairly close to spawning age. I picked them up at ACA last year. I was wondering if anyone has noticed any way to ID gender on them at all? As I understand it , none of the Thorichthys have any obvious ways to . I may even consider venting ...

Re: Thorichthys hybrid?

So since this seems to be a HOT topic , this fish is a wild caught fish from RIO SELIMA Guatemala http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a387/Siklid423/DSCN5330.jpg From what i understand this is not with-in the range of ellioti , but is in the aureus range, so does this look like an aureus? Sadly I tinh...

Re: Thorichthys hybrid?

What did the person see in that fish that made thme think Hybrid? To me it looks like a young T aureus. I have a thread started recently on my T aureus purchase as well. I got som e conflicting info on their origin at first but finally got hold of the importer. The ones I got are wild caughts , they...

Re: Thorichthys sp confirmation

Yes the fish in the newest picture is the same female that is in the first few pictures. I may be looking into some Rio Selema T aureus as well. I would of course keep the tow locales in seperate tanks . I really think that the aggression that i am seeing is actualy from the fact that it appears the...

Re: Thorichthys sp confirmation

Here is a better picture http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a387/Siklid423/DSCN5330.jpg from what i gather , these might not be lake Izabel, or the more popular location , but they do have loads of gold speckles and a gold tone to the body . I do have another shot at some more , these one would be ri...

Re: exCichlasoma pearsei questions

OK I understand all about how to BEST end up with a pair :D . I tend to ramble on in my posts and sometimes I don't do a good job of conveying my questions :( . For that I apologise . Thank you for the info on the smallest size you have seen a pair form . What i was wondering was more along the line...

exCichlasoma pearsei questions

Hello, I recently purchased what I believe to be one male and one female "Herichthys" pearsei . I bought them in hopes of forcing a pair. What I am wondering is what anyone who knows the species thinks my odds of having a good pair will be. I know I should get more to ensure a pair, and as long as t...

Re: Thorichthys sp confirmation

Hi TOM, Actually I do have some information on the origin. Since I returned to the store and asked about were they got the I have been told 'Rio Bonito, Guatemala'. I am not familiar with any of the Thorichthys species ranges. These are by far the most aureus looking fish i have seen in my quest to ...

Re: Thorichthys sp confirmation

Thanks for your input. The pictures must not show the gold very well , but these fish have LOADS of gold compared to the ellioti I had before . Mostly just above the pink on the belly. I was also given 4 more fish tonight from another source. They too are thought to be aureums, but look nothing like...

Hello, I recently bought some " Thorichthys aureus" I bought them from a sotre i trust a great deal , but I am on the fence as to if they are aureus or ellioti/maculipinnis. Here are some pictures , I'd like to hear what everyone thinks and why. This is not my first attempt at getting aureus . I als...
