I too was think tomato when looking at this pic. how big is the fish in question? Well i have since had them breed twice. (counting the last post reference). In both cases the females had either eaten or spit the eggs within 24 hours of breeding. :(

i got a group of 8 of these. here is a pic of what looks to be a young male. Has there been any new info out there on these guys? The searches i get are sporatic and confusing. Ive seen the common pics out there but just didnt know if anyone else has found a good source of info on them. Are they very aggressive? Are these still that rare in the hobby? Do you guys think that if this is a new specie that it may end up being described as an Astatotilapia?

Looks to have some similar characteristics to an Aneocolor to me.

Books on Lake Victoria Basin

Can anyone lead me to the best Lake Victoria species book(s)? The only one I have is the Barron one Lake Victoria basin Cichlids.
Is there a book out there for this lake just like AD has on Malawi?

It is believe though that they are probably just a variant of C. virginalis, but because of it's differences with other C. virginalis in regards to color (other virginalis have gold-yellow or white dorsal fins) Yes. this is the reason for my confusion in my search for info/pics on these. I was wondering if anyone could help me out. I was wondering if Copadichromis sp. fire crest Mloto (Gome) is the same fish that goes by the name Copadichromis virginalis.

Thanks. There is a guy close by that has some adults. males & females 6-7". $40 each and fully colored of course. Im sure that would wreak some havoc to combine. Im not sure how manyy females i have as the rest of the group are smaller yet. Would i be ok to get a pair? Or is it too risky to try?

Has anyone here kept these before? I was just wondering how long it take the male to get to the bright blue coloring. These are still young and the males are starting to show some blue now. Are the kinda like the star saphirres in that they take a few years to reach their full potential? Get better ...
