Re: Difference between Ochrogenys Ndole and Mzuri

Without an extensive discussion of taxonomy, which I am unqualified to do, I think Ndole are more yellow and Mzuri are blue. I currently have a bunch of Mzuri I would like to clear from my tanks. I am looking for lamprichthys , OV Zongwe or C.F. Sibwesa females. Here is what my fish look like: http:...

Re: Julis guarding eggs

You must be keeping them in a good sized tank. I keep mine in a ten gallon by themselves and it seems that when they are about 1" the male wants to kick them out for the new fry starting to come out. Usually it starts when there are about 30 in that size tank. It's that or they quit spawning. That i...

Re: Cyathothopharynx Foai and Furcifer Variant Information

Hi Clay, Thomas, Paolo, et al, Yes, your memory is correct Clay. After alot of spawning I recaptured a purple Mbete by crossing my most purple male with a wild female. The fry, before I lost them in a move, where deeply purple with bright yellow operculum. Fantastic fish. I still have what seems to ...

Re: My Ventralis and Spilos

I would not mix gobies in the same tank. Gobies need to be kept in colonies, not oneies and twosies. I have three colonies of different species all kept in separate tanks with tropheus, or O. Ventralis or C. Foai. They are all thriving and spawn regularly. I agree with Sid that in no way should you ...

Re: Need help spawing N. sexfasciatus (blue, zambia)

Are they in a species only tank? Other fish could distrub spawning. Temperature and ph will help if you slide them up into what they are during the rainy season. Feed krill, mysis or some protein to put the females into condition. I haven't spawned the fish but that is how I work with other species....

Re: Dwarf Sumbu Fry

If you are going to move them, take the female with the shell. Do think before she starts letting them out to forage. I would put her in a dedicated small tank. I usually feed live baby brine shrimp to fry.

Good luck!

Re: lamprichthys tanganicanus

Salinity, no. But they do need iodine which is present in the lake water. Just be careful about how much you use, especially if you are spawning the fish. Iodized salt will work. Always net the fish from underneath, never chase them. If you do they will often 'kink' (they have severe seizures which ...

Xeno keepers question

I am spawning X. Ochrogenys Mzuri. Last night I tried to catch a female who I know has held for 20 days. She spit developed fry but only 4. Today I noticed not only was she still holding but I could see eyes through her lips and mouth. So I grabbed her again and this time she spit 2 more fully devel...

No, the way to sex fish is to catch them then, while in the net, check their vents.

Depends on the size of the fish. Frontosa eat fish smaller than they are.

Re: Let´s build a Nest!

I posted the webpage. There are clear photos there. As Mr. Smith often mentions on this site, relying on a seller's information is sometimes faulty. Identification by an expert can be helpful. Here, Buescher and Genevelle have identified the fish.

Creepy85, Unless your fish seller's are better at determination than Genevelle/Buscher here is how they call the fish you picture: http://www.tanganyika-cichlids.com/o_ventralis_orange_fin_2.htm Looks like Zongwe to me. A major fish distributor here misindentifies them also. See the yellow in your f...

What my friend Benoit was trying to tell you is to make other arrangements for your fish. They will kill each other in the situation you have put them in. Not a maybe.
