Re: fry temp in no heater tank

Thanks Bas, The tank is in the back room of the house. When the house warms up in the day, we will put the AC on if it gets into the upper 80's, but at night we open doors and windows to cool it down, so when the outdoor night temps are in the 50's sometimes the house will chill down to the high 60'...

Thanks Bas, I agree, I gave it more thought after I posted, and think you are right. Will let the pair have their home to themselves.

pepper cories in 75g gymno breeding tank

Well I am wondering if it would be ok to add 6 pepper corys to my main tank. only has 3 BN plecos and one of my breeding prs of gymno gyns "Yerbalitos"...........male seems bored and seems happy to run off BN now and then, never seems to want to catch or hurt them, just herds them away. The female "...

Re: temp and fry sex

I would love to know if anyone else has had mulitple spawns at different temps and what the results were.......both my tanks are at about 79, summer here, but know it is in the 80's-90's in their homeland. I know my tanks will continue to warm up as summer gets hotter, so will keep notes on this for...

temp and fry sex

Does anyone know what the ideal temp for mixed sex fry would be ??? I am having multiple gymnogeophagus gymnogmny spawns and would like there to be mixed sexes. I know that temp is important with aspistos, thought it may be true with the mouth brooders as well. Thanks for any input :)

I think she has at least 50 or more fry :D . She has the tank to herself but for a 2"BN pleco. All seems well, I put some filter media ove...

can round worms survive without host, for how long?

Hi all, does anyone know how long round worms can live without a host. I have a tank set up for fry, but had to use it as a hospital tank for a fish. He had been treated for parisites when I got him, but seems as though he had round worms still. He would not eat the worm meds and passed soon after I...

worm med food and new spawn

Will the eggs/fry be harmed by the internal worm treatment I started two days ago? I was suppose to give them one more dose of food today, and they are spawning again now. Should I feed them anyway, they were forming the eggs/sperm during treatment ??? Thanks

male gymno behavior

Hi all, should I remove my younger male from the tank. That would leave just a trio MFF in the 75 gal., both females are spawning with bigger male anyway. The younger male has been kept in the corner behind plants and under bog wood. He is not being hurt, just doesn't look like a fun life, would he ...

lighting & fish behavior

Was looking thru an older TFH magazine, was in the June 2010 issue.........goes into how fish signals can be misread in the wrong lighting  . I do notice my gymnos are starting courtship behavior in the dust/ dawn light from my window that is across the room. As the aquarium light goes on, th...
