Re: Photo contest March 2016- Submit your entries HERE!!!!

I've attempted an attachment, as opposed to the normal (for me) photo-buck routine, hope it works

Re: Jack Dempsey tankmates

Here are a couple videos I took while snorkeling with JDs in nature in Mexico. I have found where they are most successful, there are but a few if any other cichlids present, yet live bearers are everywhere, with a smattering of a few Rhamdia catfish https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=txmi1mng_XQ https...

Re: Beani and Mayan

I agree with Bas. Before I kept beani I read many reports that they were inclined to boat, but since beani are the most northerly cichlid on the Pacific side, I kept them at 68'F to no higher than 72'F, and never experienced bloat, they even spawned at those temps. But even at low temps, I found the...

Re: Cryptoheros sp?

They are a mated pair, and I believe the male is showing, pre-spawn dominance.
It has been suggested they are really C myrnae.

I received this pair as Cryptoheros septemfasciata Just wondered what opinions others might think they are ? http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i97/dstuer/cutteri/septemfasciatus/male/IMG_3783_zpscr3fkdrk.jpg http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i97/dstuer/cutteri/septemfasciatus/female/IMG_3848_zpsezrv...

Re: "tarantsy" spawn

tarantsy fry became free swimmers today, feeding green water so far, as they are very small. http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i97/dstuer/Ptycho/tarantsy/spawn/IMG_3234_zpsananjb74.jpg http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i97/dstuer/Ptycho/tarantsy/spawn/IMG_3239_zpsklfb1bck.jpg http://i70.photobucket....

Today the wrigglers have all gathered under the effluent of water trickling into the breeder box.

"tarantsy" spawn

The Ptychochromis "tarantsy" spawned a few days ago in a community tank. For fear of losing the entire spawn to tankmates, I pulled out the most egg covered rock and put it in a breeder box for artificial hatching. immediately after it was removed the other tank inhabitants swooped in and polished o...

The last time I was there, I was checking out the different cichlid habitat, and once I get set up, asfraci and some others will be on my catch list. http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i97/dstuer/Panama14/antondecocle/IMG_5060_zpsef9bb5b6.jpg http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i97/dstuer/Panama14/La%2...

Re: Astatheros Rostratus

Yes, trying to catch any pond fish at the end of season has always been a chore for me, I usually drain the pond to a puddle. And as you know, rostratum are so easily stressed, and crash into walls at the slightest shadow, but I'm moving to Panama in the fall anyway, so whatever I do these days caus...

I see new action on this thread, reread it, and figured I'd hop back on. My group came from Cichlids of the Americas @ 2 yrs ago, and were maybe 2" mas o menos at the time. http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i97/dstuer/Astatherosrostratum/001_zps59ce1f47.jpg Now @ 5" they have all grown up together, ...

Here is the same male, as in my 1st shot, going through some color changes, but beyond that, he's been doing lots of digging, hope he's preparing for an upcoming spawning event. http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i97/dstuer/Ptycho/tarantsy/IMG_1478_zpsbtf80euu.jpg http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i9...

The pair began clearing a new spawning site, so just in case they decided the older might fry pose a threat, the pair was removed to let the 2 week old fry grow out unmolested in the 75 gal spawning tank. http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i97/dstuer/nicaraguese/female/spawn/IMG_0064_zpsosxdgasv.jpg ...

Re: Cichlasoma dimerus spawn.

Male went on a rampage, kicked the snot out of the female, and proceeded to rid the entire tank of fry. Luckily I had previously sucked some of the fry out with a turkey baster, just in case of an estrangement event. Now at about 2 weeks post hatch the remaining few are doing well so far. http://i70...
