Re: menarambo spawn

Option 1 and get the temperature up to 86 f (30c) then see what happens - Feed the young with copious brine shrimp and fry food and do lots of water changes. Good luck!

Re: couple Paretroplus kieneri pics

White doesn't always mean infertile for Paretroplus, I am sure deRham reports of Lamena laying white eggs which were perfectly viable,
Love the Kieneri by the way - easily my favourite Damba and sadly unavailable in the UK. Keep up the good work.

Re: Etroplus maculatus, golden oldie from a forgotten era

I had canarensis for a while but they didn't prosper. I gave my remaining few to friends who still have them, I believe and have bred them once. BTW my Suratensis are in 1/2 strength seawater so their water is very brackish. This is the only way I have had them breeding.

Re: Etroplus maculatus, golden oldie from a forgotten era

Nice fish, I used to keep Orange Chromides but haven't seem them in the Uk for a long time. I do however have a wild breeding group of the larger Sri Lankan Suratensis: http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff173/1cichlid1/Picture002.jpg Keeping them alongside Paretroplus really shows the similarities....

Re: Paretroplus Damii

Hi there, First I must say Damii are in the UK I have some and George Reclos has some. Withregards to their tank, the ph is 7.7 the water 86 degrees. They are fed on a rotation with string beans, frozen krill, mussel, and spirulina flake. This seems to suit them fine. As of today aggression levels h...

Re: Paretroplus Damii

Just thought that I would update on my progress with these fish. They were in a 9 foot tank but sadly the base plate broke. Now i have them on their own in a 65g 5 foot tank, well aquascaped. The largest male is about 9 inches the smallest a female is about 6 inches. This is their final home and my ...

Distributing Madagascan cichlids

Does anyone else have a problem with this. I produce a number of Paratilapia and Ptychochrom is each year. I like to pass these on for free to other aquarists through cichlid forums . This is proving more and more difficult. Last week, i broke my cardinal rule and took a batch of 2 inch Paratilapia ...

I am down to about 50 young but our tap water is very poor at the moment, I think I am going to lose this batch :( I'll keep things posted.

Re: Ptychochromis Oligacanthus spawn

I use a brand called ZM200 made from brineshrimp and they feed ravenously on this and grow quickly (although their rate of growth is very slow compared to other cichlids). I find that most MAda cichlids are notorius egg and fry eaters in captivity, and I reckon that this is happening for you, try re...

Re: Ptychochromis Oligacanthus spawn

Just to report that I have had my first spawning from the pair above's offspring. The female is barely 2 inches and I crossed her back to her Uncle who is about 5 inches to try and get some genetic differnece in a tiny gene pool. She has deposited around 300 hundred eggs which I have decided to remo...

Re: Pantostictus ............ ??????????

All I know is that they came from a reputable source in the UK and I think he got them from Rapps although i may be wrong. They are very young at the moment maybe 4 cm total length. Could this be remants of juvenille colouration? I wish I could tell you more.
