The only confusion is that the really colorful Vieja melanura were collected by us in Lago Yaxha, in 2004 and again in 2005.

I have finally gotten around to sorting out the other fish that we caught in Lake Peten last Sunday. Two of these are a bit of a puzzle to identify. The affinis in Lago Peten are variable and I do not think at all like pasionis. DSC_0061.jpg DSC_0056.jpg This looks alot like the fish we collected in the Rio Gracias a Dios, a tributary of the Sarstoon, in eastern Guatemala in 2006. This river to my knowledge was not sampled by Schmitter-Soto. The real chetamulensis most likely is from further north, and the species pictured...

The Thorichthys pictured came from Laguna Sacnab/Yaxha about 60 kilometers east of Peten/Itza.
