Re: Mayaheros zebra

This fish at this resort in Xcaret, Mexico looks like m. Zebra too me, but can someone confirm. Hi, zebra live only in cenote xlacah at dzibilchalun, near merida. This is a short, high body fish, perhaps amarum, but probably is normal urophthalmus. You have to do some measurement to recognize it. H...

Re: Cichlid ID, please

From the pics I've seen of istlantum, that's not it. They have black along the upper part of the body. Mine does not. However, it is a close match. Perhaps mine is young, or a hybrid. Frank The black is melanistic pattern, you see it only in juveniles, spawning fish o stressed fish. This was one of ...

Re: Interesting Lethrinops Spawning Behavior

Hi Mark! This male behavior can be seen for several species, Lethrinops, Copa, Oto, Mchenga or others. The sneakers males seem feminine and enter the nests when the dominant male chases other fish. You don't see this in the dense big arenas where males are all colorful and expect the females in thei...

The fish I have on reserve are around 9-10cm, they will be coming in over 2-3 weeks. Could I already see some characteristics at this size?
Yes, males have already convexity in the middle of the anal fin.

Re: Thorichthys sp. La Libertad

Thanks Enrico. Perhaps this bland specimen that Stan caught was an aberrant morph of one of the three species you mentioned? May be. For aberrant morph in 2010 I see a blue meeki in cenote escondido. You can looking for aureus population from belize or rio motagua, or thori from coatzacoalcos basin...

Re: Thorichthys sp. La Libertad

Might anyone have any notions of Thorichthys sp. La Libertad. It was an undescribed? species found by Stan Sung many years ago while collecting in Central America. Sorry, I cannot even begin to say what country or what river system he found it in. I do remember Stan's image: typical Thorichthys bod...
