Re: Tilapia guinasana on You-Tube. Count the morphs!

Thanks! I have seen some diving videos from the lake but this is the first one to actually show some cichlids. Really lovely, though I wish the shots were longer.

Re: Alarming interest in hybrids

People often get fascinated by the novelties, but I have the feeling (maybe naive?) that along with the everpresent love for ecology, ecofriendliness more people will get back to the natural forms of fishes. That being said, wild livebearers have always been the cup of tea of their fanatics, they ar...

Welcome to the forum, and you speak English very well indeed!

It's a pleasure to meet someone who enjoys cichlids (or fishes, in general) that naturally occur in his country. Please do not hesitate to post photos of your fish or pictures from your field trips to get them!

Re: Retroculus lapidifer courting

Maybe don't separate the fry at all? I mean at least untill they grow up a little. If the pair is alone and the parent fish are not nervous they shouldn't eat the fry I think.

Re: Retroculus lapidifer courting

I haven't heard about this moving behavior as well, though it is common with other cichlids which do not build pebble nests. But still, they move larvae, not eggs! Very interesting.

Re: In search of some biotope information Retroculus

Not to be forgotten is a good piece of info found in the classic "Buntbarsche Amerikas" 3rd volume by Stawikowski and Werner. There is a photograph (p. 18) showing R. lapidifer nests placed relatively close to one another on a rather flat, rocky area just barely covered in sand and gravel. It was ta...

Re: Heros severus 'Atabapo' wild caught pair with fry

I have never been great aficionado of Heros species (despite of the existence of sp. "Rotkeil") but the two recent additions to the hobby from the genus, that is the real H. severus and H. sp. Atabapo really makes me change my mind I think. Great cichlids.

Beautiful, especially Costa Rica! Could you tell us the localities of Astatheros species you have on the photos from CR? And, I wonder how large were those adult males of Poecilia gilli?

Thanks for posting those pictures!

Re: My C A tank with fry

@Piotr: We keep them as 2/3. Only the alpha male spawns or tries to spawn with several females. Many times it is disturbed by a second female. I had fry for the first time 3 years ago. Only 4 young fish survived, because I kept them in the tank. This is the second spawn. So I had to wait 3 years fo...

Gorgeous! Could you tell me please how are pair bonds among your Chuco? They tend to quarrel after spawnings or are pairs relatively stable?

Congratulations! It is not a common thing in the hobby.

Please consider using some sort of image resizing software/website, I'd love to see some photos.

Re: CA tank stocking question and pics

You will need more hiding places and break up the bottom of the tank into numerous territories (i.e. add many rocks and wood) because now when a pair spawns the rest of the fish in the tank will have tought times surviving this. Especially if spawning pair is sieboldii ;) I am not really sure that y...
