Re: Ctenochromis polli and C. luluae

Rico's logic makes sense. Mark, how would you compare the polli and irvinei? I soawned irvinei repeatedly in a 40G breeder, but managing the aggression wasn't easy. If the polli are less aggressive they might be worth a try.

Re: Ctenochromis polli and C. luluae

Mark (and others),

I had a briefchat with Dave Schuhmacher. He used to have a group, but found them to be highly aggressive. They killed each other after Dave passed them on to another hobbyist. How did yours behave when you kept them?

Interesting thread! There is a guy in France who has some polli for sale. Doesn't help Mark or I, though.

Re: Lamprologus lethops Article

Mark,

I too was very excited to see the article. I had a chat with a friend this morning and both he and I are concerned that, if spawned, any fry would go for premium prices.

Re: Alcoapia alcalicus

Duane,

I appreciate the kind comment. Just for clarification I am just a hobbyist, not a petstore/dealer.

I am glad to see that you got your alcalicus going.

Re: Alcolapia alcalicus

For those of you who want to give this species a try, I just put up a group for sale on aquabid, category "West African" (which isn't quite where the fish are coming from). I ship within the continental USA.

Re: Orthochromis kalungwishiensis

Let's hope some of these guys will find their way into the US. I cannot tell which of the species might become available, but I am sure that most forum members have seen the two reports by Hans van Heusen in Cichlid News a while back. It hardly matters which of the species becomes available, all of ...

Re: Orthochromis kalungwishiensis

Thanks Mark. As far as I know a very small number of some of Hans' Orthochromis species might soon become available to hobbyists. I do not know specifics.

Re: Alcoapia alcalicus

Duane, I keep a fairly large breeding group in a species tank, using high temps and brackish conditions. They spawn regularly, but i need to pull the fry a day before they are released, because the parents don't appear to protect the fry, and h other fish in the group would happily eat them up. Janos

Re: Etroplus canarensis adaptable or not?

I keep mine in a blend of about 85-90% RO water and 10-15% tap water, based on a recommendation by the person who sold me my group. Mine are still too young to spawn and I didn't take a chance by testing how adaptable this species is. I find them to be excessive eaters but slow growers. I keep them ...

Joe: I'm afraid Bas is right with his safety concerns. Do you have access to the article in which Hannes Svardal described his collecting trip to Iran? Send me a PM if interested. The article is written in German, but even if you don't speak German, the pictures are well worthwhile taking a look! Ta...

Re: Anyone Keeping The Iranian Cichlid - Iranocichla Hormuzensis

Some friends of mine and I received Iranocichla from Anton Lamboj about one year ago; they've spawned for me on a few occasions but were not very successful bringing up any fry. I'm attaching two images and hope they get through. I adjust the conductivity to avout 6000 microsiemens per centimeter us...

The third picture looks like a Thoracochromis brauschi to me. If that's indeed the case, you've made a rare find. I'd rush back to the fish store and get the fish in a heart beat. There isn't a whole lot of information out there regarding brauschi. They are relatively mild tempered and males reach a...

Yes, looks like a Tilapia. Perhaps T. bemini? Did you look at the species profiles in this forum and/or Lamboj's book? You could also ask for help at apistogramma.com

Gobiocichla ethelwynnae

Hi! I've posted this thread on apistogramma.com and cichlid-forum.com but so far I did not get any responses. Perhaps somebody in this forum can help me? I'm considering getting some Gobiocichla ethelwynnae from Toyin. Is there anybody out there who has first-hand experience with these fish? I'm loo...
