Re: August ACA Winners Announced!!!!

Great photos folks. Overall some very nice submissions. If I have one overall suggestion, consider your cropping. A few of the images would have been better if cropped either a little looser...or some tighter. Happy to share any other comments for those who inquire.

Re: March Winners announced!!!!

I would like to know how the judges came to their decision on the winners and offer up any critique of my photo's. I don't have your exact scores in font of me as I am on my IPad. I thought you had some nice shots. You got some great action shots. I think the first and third were your best. Overall...

Thank you
I was not aware that any photos were deleted. April is open. I hope to see them there.

Absolutely agree, Bas. I was just wondering if the "Flowerhorn" somehow fell under a different category than your run of the mill hybrid mutt.

Collecting in Ecuador

Looking for anyone who has done some collecting in Ecuador. A good friend of mine is traveling there and wondering what he can expect in the water.

Thoughts?

Where do you see the aquarium hobby in twenty years? What's going to be hot? Trends?

Today in the Fishroom ~ 4/5/12 Macro Portraits

I am testing new photo tanks. The one that these photos were shot in is a little different than most that I make. Most have a painted black back and a frosted glass bottom to diffuse light. The biggest problem that I have is cutting down the amount of light that I throw on a tank. So this time I pai...

I am fairly certain you will see these in the hobby in a year. Call it a hunch.

Sp. "Chomba"?

Central American cichlid apparently collected near Laguna de Términos, Campeche. From a friend. "There is a locality called Chomba south of Laguna de Términos, Campeche, although it isn't terribly close to "Río San Joaquín, the headwaters of the Río Chumpán", which empties into Términos... but nearb...

Today in the Fishroom ~ 2/12/12 P. fredrichsthali "La Ceiba"

I have two breeding pair of these fish. This male is the largest and is the only wild caught. He is @12" TL (total length). I had a wild female, but lost her in a "marital dispute" with this bruiser. Love hurts. The female is @7" TL.You can see by the lip that he has had his share of lip locking with...

Toda in the Fishroom ~ 2/9/12 Paratheraps zonatus

I take lots of photos of this particular fish. He's very interactive...and as you can see, poses nice in front of the camera. Her's the photo lighting set up. http://www.aquamojo.com/Gutty/Zone-121.jpg His color is more white and blue now than previously when it was more blue on white. He swings bac...

Today in the Fishroom ~ Paratheraps Sp."coatzacoalcos"

A few new shots of the P. coatzacoalcos. I have a dozen of these fish and a 100 gallon tank full of one inch fry. Looks like my largest pair will be breeding again soon. Interesting in that the female in this photo is about four inches....two thirds of the size of all of the other females that I own...

Today In The Fishroom~1/14/12 Variety w/new camera

I picked up a Nikon D-700 camera. Here's some of the first shots. Really please with the quality. These are all shot at an ISO of 100...but the ISO sensitivity goes up to 25,600 and will shoot at 1/8000th of a second. Serious hardware. Re: Today In The Fishroom~1/07/12 P. "Coatzacoalcos"

They look very similar to Zonatus. They are still undescribed...so apparently different enough to be placed in that category. I have seen them being sold as red tail Zonatus.

Today In The Fishroom~1/07/12 P. "Coatzacoalcos"

I have nine of these fish, Paratheraps Sp. "coatzacoalcos" Rio Carolina, in various tanks. Two breeding pair. This is the largest male of the group @8". It's a very colorful fish that is very similar in appearance to the P. zonatus. http://www.aquamojo.com/coat/Coat-762.jpg One thing I have noted is...

Today In The Fishroom~1/03/12 Amphilophus hogaboom

I have a couple dozen of these juvenile F1 A. hogaboomorum's in various tanks acting as dither fish. Some of them were getting fairly large (5-10cm). I had a few open tanks and decided to move some of the better looking specimens to start another breeding pair. Here's one of the smaller females @5cm...
