Re: egg problem

Yes, hope that will do. On the other hand, I think they need a little luck to since they are about 12 years old.

Re: egg problem

Thanks Bas!
I`ll keep it in mind next time. And maybe try and trigg a spawn while the eggs still are quite fresh in her abdomen :)

egg problem

I have an old wild pair of P. Friedrichsthalii I want to raise a last brood from. They layed eggs today but their eggs dont stick to the substrate....many years since they did stick. The eggs are now scatterd around, but I hope they will turn out ok. Any one that knows what causes this non sticking ...

Re: H. Bartoni, strange behaviour

The male is "behind bars" for the safety of the female and fry so I dont have a family pic of them.
"Tuxedo" That`s one telling description!!!

Re: H. Bartoni, strange behaviour

Eventually, patience payed of :D After many unsuccessful spawnings, the pair finally made it right. Today they have a freeswimming brood, so I netted the other tank mates....leaving only the female with the young. Thanks for your encouraging feedback folks :) Without it I might just have given up on...

Re: A. robertsoni foods

This is very interesting and explains why I cannot catch robertsoni in the Lake by line fishing. Many years ago, I was on a collecting trip to Mexico. In Tabasco I ran into some local fishermen who had some Robertsonis amongst their catch. I`m not a 100% sure of this but I think they used earth wor...

Re: Thorichthys sp confirmation

Is this the same fish as the ones pictured in your first post? If the fish comes from guatemala, it rules out the ellioti since the ellioti`s distribution range dont stretch that far. By the way....here are some good thorichthys articles found on this site: http://www.cichlidae.com/article.php?id=14...

Re: Thorichthys sp confirmation

Thanks for your input. The pictures must not show the gold very well , but these fish have LOADS of gold compared to the ellioti I had before . Mostly just above the pink on the belly. I was also given 4 more fish tonight from another source. They too are thought to be aureums, but look nothing lik...

Re: Back to the hobby after a break. Intro

I incline to think larger fish is male. Are they from same spawn? Same age? Hope you are right. And yes, same age and same spawn. And if they turn out to be a pair, I would be reluctant to sell or give away the youngsters since I`ve been told that their parents (or grand parents) comes from two dif...

Re: H. Bartoni, strange behaviour

It`s the second time under my care, but I wasn`t home the first time, so I did not observe what went on. First time went bad to. When I arrived back home, the female had disposed her eggs and possitioned her self vertcally behind the filter inlet. The male behaved as if nothing had happend. The tank...

H. Bartoni, strange behaviour

I keep a bartoni pair in a 50x50x150 tank. I have a devider on "stand by" which I have used just a few times to give her som peace. The male do not terrorize the female, but occationally tends to stress her a bit to mutch. The male is 16-17cm SL, the female is about 10 cm TL. Today she layed a good ...
