A book where all know (at the time) Malawi fishes are shown and 1ussed, this 495 pages large format book (26x36 cm., 10x14 inches), shows in over 1000 color pictures a lot of aerial views, coastline, habitat and aquatic fauna of this large east African lake. 90% of those pictures were taken in the lake itself, many underwater. Those species of which no picture was available, are shown in excellent illustrations. To make it easier to find a specie, the genera and species of cichlids are treated alphabetically rather than by relationships. Non cichlid species are though just briefly 1ussed and illustrated. The information on each specie is cross referenced to the pages where the photos or illustrations are shown. Of all the fishes their trades names, distribution, races and morphs, maximum length, habitat, food, breeding behavior and similar species information are given. An extensive list of literature is also given at the end of the book.
