lateral display

Context: Behavior.

A way in wich fish show off to other fish, in which it displays its side with fins wide spread, often accompanied with beating of the tail fin. May be used as a threat display (e.g. two territorial males) or courtship display, where partners show their fitness and readiness to spawn.
