保育: Haplochromis sp. 'kenya gold' 未被国际自然保护联盟（IUCN）在濒危物种红色名录中为自然保育进行评估Until the situations in Lake Victoria stabilize, all cichlid species from here must be considered threatened. Although there is evidence of resurgence of many rock cichlids (furu) in Lake Victoria, several lineages have not fared as well as others. The fish frequenting open water or sandy stretches away from quick shelter have been decimated by Lates niloticus. As a molluskivore, it is presumed that this was Haplochromis sp. 'kenya gold' preferred niche and could easily have been predated upon. This is of course speculation and should be considered as such until such time that firm modern data on the fauna of this region is presented.
