Versions

Original description as Xenotilapia flavipinnis:

• Poll, Max. 1985. "Description de Xenotilapia flavipinnis sp. n. du lac Tanganika (Pisces, Cichlidae)". Revue de Zoologie et Botanique Africaines. pp. 105-109 (crc00346).

Conservation: Xenotilapia flavipinnis is evaluated by the international union for the conservation of nature in the iucn red list of threatened species as (LC) least concern (2006). While Xenotilapia flavipinnis as a species is very abundant in its preferred habitat, some populations are under pressure from fishing with large seine-nets on the sandy beaches, making some beaches deprived of sand-dwelling species (Ad Konings, personal communication).
