Original description as Lamprologus buescheri:

• Staeck, Wolfgang. 1983. "Lamprologus buescheri n. sp. from the Zambian part of Lake Tanganyika (Pisces: Cichlidae)". Senckenbergiana biologica. v. 63(n. 5-6), pp 325-328 (crc00054).

Conservation: Neolamprologus buescheri is evaluated by the international union for the conservation of nature in the iucn red list of threatened species as (DD) data deficient (2006).
