Original description as Lamprologus elongatus:

• Boulenger, George Albert. 1898. "Report on the collection of fishes made by Mr. J. E. S. Moore in Lake Tanganyika during his expedition 1895-96". Transactions of the Zoological Society of London. pp. 1-37 (crc00006).

Synonyms:

• Lamprologus cunningtoni nyassae Borodin, 1936, With type locality at Mwaya, Lake Malawi, Tanzania. Determiner: Daget , 1991.

Conservation: Lepidiolamprologus elongatus is evaluated by the international union for the conservation of nature in the iucn red list of threatened species as (LC) least concern (2006).
