Pseudotropheus crabro (Ribbink & Lewis, 1982)
Original description as Melanochromis crabro:
- Ribbink, A. J. & D.S.C. Lewis. 1982. "Melanochromis crabro sp. nov.: a cichlid fish from Lake Malawi which feeds on ectoparasites and catfish eggs". Netherlands Journal of Zoology. v. 32(n. 1), pp. 72-87 (crc00172) (abstract).
Conservation: Pseudotropheus crabro is evaluated by the international union for the conservation of nature in the iucn red list of threatened species as (LC) least concern (2006). P. crabro is a rare species and is almost never collected by local fishermen. There exists also no local name for this distinct species. Even though P. crabro is a rare species, it has a wide distribution and is not threatened in its existence.
