Enantiopus melanogenys Boulenger, 1898
Original description as Ectodus melanogenys:
- Boulenger, George Albert. 1898. "Report on the collection of fishes made by Mr. J. E. S. Moore in Lake Tanganyika during his expedition 1895-96". Transactions of the Zoological Society of London. pp. 1-37 (crc00006).
Synonyms:
- Ectodus longianalis Boulenger, 1899, With type locality at Moliro, Zaire, southern Lake Tanganyika. Determiner: Pellegrin, 1904.
Conservation: Enantiopus melanogenys is evaluated by the international union for the conservation of nature in the iucn red list of threatened species as (DD) data deficient (2006). In the Zambian part of the lake the sand-dwelling cichlids of the shallow waters have been completely eliminated by beach seine fishing and one can find E. melanogenys only in water deeper than 10 meters. In other parts of the lake this species seems to be less affected by over-fishing—but I have no data from Burundi or northern Congo.
