Synonyms:

• Tilapia desfontainesi Boulenger, 1899, With type locality at . Determiner: Lacepède, 1802.

Conservation: Astatotilapia desfontainii is evaluated by the international union for the conservation of nature in the iucn red list of threatened species as (EN) endangered (2010).
