Historique de la taxinomie:
- Paraneetroplus bulleri, Regan, 1905, combinaison originale.
- Cichlasoma (Paraneetroplus) bulleri, Miller, 1966, nouvelle combinaison.
Groupements:
- Habitat: Rhéophiles primaires (Artigas Azas, 2008).
- Alimentation: Racleurs d'algues (Artigas Azas, 2008).
- Morphologie: Grands cichlidés (Artigas Azas, 2008).

Localité type: Río de Sarabia, Mexico.
Distribution: Fast flowing rivers in the Rio Coatzacoalcos drainage in México.
Répartition par pays: Mexique (endemic).
Biotope: Rivers and streams of fast flow, normally with rocky bottom. Water alkaline and hard, water normally over 3 m. in visibility. Temperature range 20-28 C. No aquatic vegetation normally found (Artigas Azas, 2004).
Localités: Río Chalchijiapan (Mexique, native), Rio Grande (Mexique, native), Río Solosuchil (Mexique, native).

The wrigglers are placed in pit until they become free swimming. Fry are lead through habitat in fast current, where they feed from the rock surface (Artigas Azas, 2004).
Maintenance: Require a tank at least 1.8 m in size, moderately aggressive, preferably a species thank. They accept all proper foods but it is better to provide an herbivorous diet. They will spawn on the gravel and take good care of babies (Artigas Azas, 2004).
The habitat remains stable in most of its range.
