• Greenwood, Peter Humphry. 1965. "The cichlid fishes of Lake Nabugabo, Uganda". Bulletin of the British Museum (Natural History) Zoology Series. vol. 12; nr. 9; pp. 315-357 (crc01461).

Conservation: Haplochromis simpsoni is evaluated by the international union for the conservation of nature in the iucn red list of threatened species as (EN) endangered (1996).
