Original description as Pseudocrenilabrus multicolor victoriae:

• Seegers, Lothar. 1990. "Bemerkungen zur Gattung Pseudocrenilabrus Teil 2: Pseudocrenilabrus multicolor victoriae nov. subsp". Die Aquarien- und Terrarien-Zeitschrift (DATZ). v. 43; (no. 2); pp. 99-103 (crc01445).

Conservation: Pseudocrenilabrus victoriae is evaluated by the international union for the conservation of nature in the iucn red list of threatened species as (LC) least concern (2006). It occurs over a wide range of stable habitats and is apparently not affected by the Nile Perch boom and its consequences.
