Original description as Tylochromis microdon:

• Regan, Charles Tate. 1920. "A revision of the African cichlid fishes of the genus Tylochromis". Annals and Magazine of Natural History. (Ser. 9) v. 5; n. 26; pp. 163-169 (crc01032).

Conservation: Tylochromis microdon is evaluated by the international union for the conservation of nature in the iucn red list of threatened species as (EN) endangered (2010).
