Etymologia: After one of the discoverers of the species for science and hobby, the great french cichlid aquarist Jean Claude Nourissat (1941-2003).

Cechy charakterystyczne: More slender than the rest of the species in Amphilophus of the longimanus group, with standard length/body height ratio from 2.33 to 2.64 times as long as high (Allgayer, 1989). It posses a particularly large vertically oval black blotch in the middle part of the flanks.

Nazwy popularne: Mojarra de labios gruesos, Bluemouth cichlid (Miller, 2005).

Lokalizacja typu: Small river, 1 km before the village La Pera on road from Palenque to Ojo de Agua, Chiapas, Mexico.

Występowanie: Distributed in the eastern affluents of the Rio Usumacinta system: Rio Usumacinta, Rio Salinas, Rio de la Pasión, Rio Lacantum and their affluents (Artigas Azas, 2005).

Zamieszkiwane kraje: Gwatemala (native), Meksyk (native).

Siedlisko: Found in riverine courses in areas of moderate to strong water flow, both in small shallow creeks and large rivers. pH above 7.5 and a moderate to very high water hardness. Water temperature stays in a tropical range from 22ºC to 28ºC (Artigas Azas, 2005).

Lokalizacje: Chancala River (Meksyk, native), Corzo River (Meksyk, native), Lacanjá River (Meksyk, native).

Pokarm: Carnivorous, substrate sifter.

Rozmnażanie: Biparental substrate brooder, breeds during the spring (March-June), building nests normally protected by sunken trees and branches, both parents care for fry (Artigas Azas, 2005).

Akwarystyka: A normally shy fish (Keijman, 1995) at least 400 liters in volume and 1.5 in length, the tank is best to be provided with ample cover (Rocks, driftwood as an example). Not too agressive, not to house with very aggressive Central American cichlids. Eats most foods offered. Males were sexually active when they became 12 cm long, and females ten cm (Artigas Azas, 2005).

Ochrona: Astatheros nourissati nie jest wpisany przez Międzynarodową Unię Ochrony Przyrody do Czerwonej Księgi Gatunków Zagrożonych IUCN jakoNot listed in the Mexican Official Norm NOM-059-ECOL-2001.

Komentarze: This fish had been given a tentative name of Cichlasoma caerulora by Carl Hubbs at the University of Michigan in 1935, it was never described with that name (Artigas Azas, 1993).
