Original description as Neolamprologus devosi:

• Schelly, Robert & M.L.J. Stiassny & L. Seegers. 2003. "Neolamprologus devosi sp.n., a new riverine lamprologine cichlid (Teleostei, Cichlidae) from the lower Malagarasi River, Tanzania". Zootaxa. n. 373; pp. 1 - 11 (crc01264) (abstract).

Conservation: Neolamprologus devosi is evaluated by the international union for the conservation of nature in the iucn red list of threatened species as (VU) vulnerable (2009).
